Happy Virgo New Moon! This is the time of the year when we turn our attention to work, projects, and the daily grind. As the sign of purity, Virgo also connects us to themes health, diet, nutrition. It’s how we take care of our bodies. It’s discipline and responsibility. With that in mind, the Virgo New Moon is exact on September 9, 2018 at 2:01 pm EDT, 17 degrees Virgo. That’s 11:01 am Los Angeles, 7:01 pm London, and 4:01 am in Sydney on September 10.

Virgo is the harvest and it’s no coincidence that this is the time of year that we tend to the fields. We gather the food that not only nourishes us but prepares us for the winter. Even the archetype of Virgo is the maiden carrying sheafs of wheat.

On a day-to-day level, Virgo has a reputation for being neat and orderly. Everything has its place. The closets are organized and color coded. The details are impeccably taken care of. The day is planned out. But this need for perfection can sometimes make for an impossibly high bar.

New moons are new beginnings and we’re getting a fresh start with all things Virgo over the coming four weeks. Don’t be surprised if you’re feeling an urge to get organized or wanting to start a project. Our health is also a priority. It’s time to eat right, exercise, or schedule a doctor’s appointment. It’s even time for us to perfect our craft. Virgo sets a high bar after all.

This new moon picks up support from Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn as well as Uranus in Taurus. For those in the know, Taurus and Capricorn are earth signs, so as much as this new moon focuses us on Virgo’s fondness things to be orderly and tidy and for there to be a plan, we’re also working to bring in Saturn/Pluto in Capricorn’s ambition and power and Uranus in Taurus’s new vision. Translation? It’s a good month to work hard to get ahead, build new structures, innovate new approaches, and transform existing ones.

But for all of Virgo’s need for to be in control of things, this new moon has another side to it. If the Sun and Moon in Virgo is order, then an opposition to Neptune in Pisces puts things upside down. If Virgo is real life, then Pisces are anything but. Neptune tugs at the edges of our reality. It blurs between the world we can see and the world we cannot. It asks us to surrender.

There’s going to be a bit of a back and forth going on in the coming weeks. We’re ready to get things done, but Neptune makes us want to take a nap instead. If we’re focusing on our health right now, we have to look at things holistically — body, mind, and soul — taking into account our emotional and energetic health. Additionally, Neptune also has a habit of making us extra sensitive. As a result, we may be feeling more emotional than usual over the coming weeks, emotions that can at times feel like a flood.

Do keep an eye out for illusions and deceptions. Sometimes the dance between Virgo and Pisces, Mercury and Neptune, can be confusing or disorienting. Is it real or is it a lie? If posed with something that seems too good to be true, make sure you do your homework.

Having said all that, at the heart of this lunar month I think that we have an opportunity to manifest our dreams into reality. So, do just that. Write up what you want to make real this month. (Be practical as well as respectful of other people’s boundaries, of course.) Use Neptune’s intuition. And then bring it into real life with Virgo through planning, dedication, and work. Then again, make sure you leave room for surrender. Thanks to Neptune, sometimes its not about what we want, but what the heavens want for us.
