Happy Cancer Full Moon! This is the time of the year when we shine a light into the heart of life. As a sign, Cancer speaks to some of our most basic of human needs and experiences — care, connection, sensitivity, home, family, roots, the mother. With that in mind, the full moon will be exact on January 12, 2017 at 6:34 am EST, 22 degrees Cancer/Capricorn. That’s 3:34 am Los Angeles, 11:34 am London, and 10:34 pm Sydney.

I’ve been thinking about this full moon for a while. It’s a reminder that while we’re almost two years from the last of seven epic squares between Uranus and Pluto, its initiatory energy is still very much with us. And Cancer is a sign that I think has had to weather some of the worst of the ups and downs over the last few years. Why? Because it’s a sign that is deeply emotionally invested in things staying the same. Yet Cancer has had to watch — and endure the psychic trauma — of things dying around them.

You don’t have to be a Cancer to know what this feels like. In fact we all have Cancer somewhere in our chart. (We’re a matrix of all twelve signs, the Sun being one of the more important points.) We all know what it’s like to nurtured, held, loved. We know family and home feels like. We know what connection is. At the same time, these may be areas that cry out for more, feel painful, unfulfilled.

The Cancer Full Moon is another reminder that we need Cancer. Our lives need to have heart and soul. We need to be surrounded by people who care for us, who keep us anchored, whether its actual family or the people we choose to call family. When we don’t there’s almost a sickness in our soul, a palpable lack that infects everything in our life.

There may be a story why the energy of Cancer in your life is a touchy subject. Maybe it’s coupled with loss, trauma, and painful childhood memories. With a powerful cardinal grand cross packed into the chart of the full moon, we have to confront this pain as well as anything that is preventing us from experiences the richness of Cancer — because it has to go. I know this is a familiar mantra I’ve been repeating over the last few years, but this is truly the era of humanity that we’re in. It’s also the promise of Uranus and Pluto, that even the deepest wounds and the stubbornest of emotions can transform.

Use the energy of the full moon to take a serious look at what you need in life. I don’t mean surface level material needs, I mean deep in the heart needs. And be real about the stories and blocks that you’re holding onto that a preventing you from getting what you need. If you feel like crying, cry. If you need to book time with a therapist, great. I think one of the deepest weights the soul can feel is that it is alone.

The tightest aspect in the full moon chart is a square to Jupiter in Libra, another sign that speaks to connection, although a different kind of connection — one-on-one social interaction and relationship. Again, this full moon is telling a story about you, what you need, and your connection to others that help to fill this need. With Venus conjunct Pisces, all pain can eventually be healed. Miracles can happen. We have to open ourselves to something greater, something unknown, but we must let go.

So much is happening in the world right now. Make sure your caring for yourself and connecting with others on a heart level.
