Happy Aries New Moon! This is the time of the year when we set our new intentions in support of action, leadership, renewal, and vitality. Although the start of Aries season was four weeks previous, we’re finally able to harness its energy of new beginnings. The new moon will arrive on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at 2:57 pm EDT. (That’s 11:57 am PDT, 7:57 pm London, 4:57 am Sydney on 4/19.)
In the northern hemisphere the beginning of Aries coincides with the start of spring. But if you’re in New York like me, spring is only now just starting after a long, cold winter. The new moon, falling late in the sign of Aries, in a way parallels this slow start. Yet here we are, ready to get moving and make new things happen in our life. (Insert praise hands emoji.)
I’m fascinated by the lunar cycle and the new moons set up the energetic vessel for the coming 28 days. In a sense they weave the threads of reality, nourishing the hologram we call life. With that in mind, what are the next four weeks about? How can we learn more about this Aries new beginning. First, let’s take a look at the ruler of the new moon — Mars.
Mars is over in Taurus and what this reveals is that this cycle is all about planting the seeds that will nourish stability, security, and resource in our lives. Mars also has to slow down in Taurus, learning to take in instead of pushing so hard, and be a bit gentler. And if Taurus is a sign of fertility, the soil is rich and teeming with life, what seeds will you sow in the earth?
Mars is also looping in a few other planets by way of aspect. The conjunction to Mercury says the coming days will be busy as we gather up the material resources we need to start fresh. Maybe we’re looking to make a big purchase or we’re thinking how to increase our income or create a sense of personal wealth in whatever way you define that. Add in a trine to Pluto and there’s a fair bit of power behind this new cycle, a sense of starting fresh in a way that clears away the old. Pluto is also hidden riches. What are you uncovering? Mars square Jupiter? We may be a little cocky about it as well, but we’re certainly motivated to make things happen. And with Venus opposite Saturn, we may be feeling a weight of responsibility behind anything we begin.
So get moving. Don’t be afraid to wipe the slate clean. Create a new relationship with money and resource. Plant the seeds for the things that will nourish you in the next chapter of your life. And seeing how we’re in a bigger cycle of endings after last month’s solar eclipse at 29 Pisces, this is the perfect new moon to set forth the intentions for the life you’re bringing in after you let go of what no longer serves you.
