Happy Aries Full Moon! This is the time in the astrological calendar when the spotlight is on courage, taking action, and individuality. As the first sign of the zodiac, Aries connects us with the energy of renewal and new beginnings. Somewhere in our life we’ll need to turn a new leaf. The full moon will be exact on October 5, 2017 at 2:40 pm EDT at 12 degrees Aries/Libra. That’s 11:40 am Los Angeles, 7:40 pm London, and 11:40 pm Sydney.

This Aries Full Moon has been on my mind lately. Like all signs it has a shadow. And for all of Aries’s moxie, determination, and grit, its shadow side is aggression, impatience, rage, and violence. Does Aries have to express itself in such dark ways? Of course not. But we live in a world of polarity and, as we meet every sign through our year long journey through the zodiac, we have to face the shadow and discover how that energy lives within us.

The energies of this full moon in particular, with its square to Pluto, couldn’t drive this point home further. Pluto, our guide through the many facets of the soul, is a planet that holds a mirror to us as well as humanity. The world is going through a karmic passage right now. Life feels intense, loaded. We’re having to look at things that we’d rather not look at . . . but look at them we must. We’re looking at the shadow of Aries this month because we have to. It’s time. And astrology is all about telling time.

Full moons are also all about revelation and decision. When we delve further into the chart we see that Mars, the ruler of the full moon, is in Virgo. Whatever decision we’re making needs to be based in reality, it needs to have clarity and serve others. If Aries, in its best light, is the courage to take action, then Virgo demands a detailed plan.

There’s an issue with boundaries in this full moon, too . . . as in, what we’re going to allow to happen and what we’re not going to allow to happen, what’s balanced and what’s unbalaned. With Mars (and Venus, the ruler of the Sun) making a square to Saturn, we can talk and philosophize all we want, but at the end of the day actions speak louder than words. We have to make a decision. We have to take action. It’s an imperative.

I think another thing to keep in mind that with the strong Virgo element in chart of the full moon, there is an area of our life that needs cleaning up so we can get a fresh start. Virgo, after all, is purity and order. (Mars is trine Pluto, too. We’ve got to clean things out on the level of the soul, too.) Mars will be Virgo for a couple more weeks, so we’re still in organization mode. By the time we get to the new moon on October 19, we’re going to really have to make a break. In the meantime, make a plan for your life and start cleaning up. The cosmos is giving you a strong message.
