I think there’s a tendency to overinflate Jupiter in astrology. (I’m sure there’s a joke in there somewhere.) As the planet of largesse, it can make things bigger — our spending, our appetites, our expectations, our confidence. Also described as the planet of luck, Jupiter can certainly open doors and bestow a windfall.
But I think we miss the bigger picture when we limit Jupiter to luck and good fortune. As the ruler of Sagittarius and Pisces, Jupiter is the planet whose job is to get us to open up our eyes, so to speak. It’s the planet that makes us search and wonder, to question and want more.
In Sagittarius, a fire sign, Jupiter motivates us to open up our eyes to the world, to search other cultures and countries, to have a strong sense of conviction and adventure in equal measures. It knows the importance of education in all forms and how we all have to have something to believe in, a sense of mission in our lives.
In Pisces, a water sign, Jupiter turns inward. It’s not the world outside of us, but the world within. Here Jupiter finds spirituality, a quiet sense of mission and purpose fueled by a direct connection to something beyond this world. It’s a deeply personal sense of faith and inner knowing. It’s also a saint-like compassion.
We need Jupiter. Without it, our world is very small.
Is tomorrow the “luckiest day of the year” as other astrologers are saying? Maybe. Could we all use a little grace? Or have a door open for us? Or have our spirits replenished? Or find renewed faith? Of course.
Use this energy, especially while the Moon’s in Sagittarius, to set a new course, to vision a new adventure, to find new perspective. Plant seeds of intention so that Jupiter can help them grow.
