Happy Libra New Moon! This is the time in the lunar calendar when we turn our attention to relationships. Libra is a sign of socialization and it teaches us to reach to others, connect, form partnership, and learn to negotiate the needs of others. Libra needs balance, fairness, and harmony. Ruled by Venus, it’s also beauty, aesthetics, and design. The new moon is exact on September 28, 2019 at 2:27 pm, 5 degrees Libra. That’s 11:27 am Los Angeles, 7:27 pm London, 4:27 am Sydney on September 29, and 7:27 am in Auckland.
New moons are new beginnings and it’s a time for renewal in our relationships, from our committed and romantic connections to our desire for partnership. Libra teaches us that we can’t go it alone. We need support. We need to learn how to compromise and negotiate. And as the compliment to the sign Aries, we learn that life is a back and forth between competing needs and desires.
This new moon has some particular things woven into it. First, this new moon marks the midpoint between the eclipses. Yes, we’re half way between July’s Cancer–Capricorn eclipses and the next round at the end of the year. This new moon also forms a cross to the lunar nodes, not only recent eclipse degrees but the degree of the December 26 Capricorn solar eclipse at 5 degrees. In English? This lunar month may likely bring events that feel fated, that put us at a crossroads, that close a door and open another, that stir up drama. It’s quite possible that much of this change will be centered on relationships — Libra.
Eclipses energy isn’t necessarily bad, although they have a reputation for swift change. A new relationship may come into our lives. We may feel compelled to make a commitment to another person. A new opportunity may unexpectedly come our way. Eclipses merely push along the narrative of our lives.
Secondly, the new moon activates the energies of Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn, which means that we have our work cut out for us this lunar month. Between Venus’s square to Saturn and Pluto, we need to take a serious look at our relationships. If something is not working, if you’re avoiding something with a partner, these squares will likely force the issue, especially once Mars gets into Libra on October 4. If there are any unhealthy relationship patterns, romantic or otherwise, how will you confront them during this lunar month?
If your relationships are good shape, how will you instead use this lunar month to go deeper with a partner? Make yourself more vulnerable? Strengthen intimacy? Have uncomfortable but necessary conversations? And if you’re single and want connection, how will you demand something different, something more powerful?
Speaking of power, the presence of Pluto in the energies of the new moon and the October 13 Aries Full Moon mean that we’re likely negotiating power dynamics this lunar month. There may be times when we have to assert ourselves with someone, set boundaries, or say no. Or, we may be having to take a hard look at ourselves and what we’re attracting into our lives.
Lastly, the new moon opposes Chiron in Aries, adding a spiritual layer to what we’re dealing with this month. Chiron reveals to us the tapestry of our life and how different traumas and experiences can weave knots into this tapestry that we have to work to undo. Chiron can make us feel an old pain or reveal an old story. So pay attention to what’s unfolding this month, especially in relationships, and how that echos something that maybe even reaches back to other lives. How will you choose something different instead of going on autopilot?
