Happy Scorpio Full Moon! This is the time of the year when we shine a light on all the things that make us uncomfortable — intimacy, sexuality, trust, power, money, and vulnerability. Although not an easy sign, Scorpio is a necessary sign, teaching us about the finite and transient qualities of life. For that Scorpio is death and rebirth, raw honesty, emotional bravery, and the experiences that profoundly transform us. The full moon will be exact on May 10, 2017 at 5:44 pm EDT, 20 degrees Scorpio/Taurus. That’s 2:44 pm in Los Angeles, 10:44 pm in London, and 7:44 am in Sydney on May 11.
Scorpio is the polarity of Taurus and when the Sun is in Taurus, as it is in April and May, we’re not only experiencing the richness and fertility of the material world but the fleetingness of it as well. If Taurus is the solid earth beneath our feet, then Scorpio is a leap into the unknown. Here we face our demons, our shadow, the dark corners of our psyche. We open up to others, we confide, we trust, or we feel the sting of betrayal and rejection.
What do we do with these experiences? Scorpio says we have to grow from them, taking our pain and transforming it into something else. The Scorpio Full Moon will highlight the areas you’re working on, the areas that feel tender when you press on them. You may even hear the word “trigger” bandied about. And, since full moons create a sense of urgency, we may have a decision to make about our emotional health, our sexuality, and even our money in the coming days.
Looking at the chart of the full moon, there’s a lot going on, which says that the full moon will trigger (there’s that word) complex events or emotions in our lives. With Mars, the ruler of the full moon, in the sign of Gemini, much of what we will experience will center around information — news that shocks, confronts, illuminates, awakens, and transforms. Scorpio likes its secrets, trading them for influence and power. Gemini, on the other hand, can’t keep its mouth shut. People are talking with this full moon and secrets are not secret any more. Plus, courtesy of a trine between the Sun and Pluto, we’re seeing the underside of power and control, recognizing that the shadow in the external is a reflection of the shadow within. Our personal work couldn’t be more important and potent this lunar month.
With that in mind, you may want to use this energy to book time with a therapist or a trusted confidant, talking out some of your deepest feelings to find breakthrough. Mercury, the ruler of Gemini, is over in Aries and fresh off a conjunction to Uranus. Whatever insights or new consciousness this full moon brings will speak to a permanent break from the past and the start of a new journey. We’ve got support from Saturn and Jupiter, too. There are amazing opportunity for lasting growth in May.
Watch out for Neptune, though. There may be something we’re not seeing. Communication may feel a little unclear or, worse, we may be lied to, shockingly so. That said, Neptune speaks to a need to surrender some expectations with this full moon. As much as Scorpio loves to be in control, events may come up that remind Scorpio that it’s not in control. There are greater forces at work. Make sure you’re paying mind to Taurus, a sign that keeps us grounded and pragmatic, even through life’s twists and turns.
Lastly, the lunar nodes just slipped into the signs of Leo and Aquarius. This full moon is a preview or another link in a story that began in February and will bring us to the next round of eclipses in August. Pay attention to what is unfolding. The next turn in the story is only three months away.
