Happy Aquarius Full Moon! Happy lunar eclipse! This is the time of the year when the spotlight is on community, social connection, and our friendships. Aquarius is also the sign of the humanitarian and when we attune to the sign it’s about collective needs versus our own. That said, the lunar eclipse will be exact on July 27, 2018 at 4:20 pm EDT, 4 degrees Aquarius/Leo. That’s 1:20 pm Los Angeles, 9:20 pm London, and 6:20 am Sydney on July 28.

If you know your astrology then you know that eclipses are agents of change and transformation. They bring us from one chapter of our lives into another. Yet, despite their reputation, they are a common occurrence, falling every six months like clockwork. And eclipses teach us that nothing in life is permanent; we grow, evolve, we change jobs, we move, we get married, we separate, we strike off in a new direction. Thus is the wheel of life.

That said, every eclipse is different. Some push the wheel more quickly, thrusting us into something new in a way that may feel a bit disorienting. This is one such eclipse.

While the Aquarius Full Moon generally speaks to themes of community and connection, it also pushes us to make a decision about the groups we belong to and the people we ally ourselves with. Aquarius is tribe. And either we feel like we’re a part of a tribe or we feel like the outsider struggling to find our place in the world.

Aquarius also gives us a panoramic view of ourselves and the world, it helps us to look towards the future. And so with this full moon we may be seeing things from a wider perspective. Do we like what we see or do we need to shake things up? Do we need to make a radical change? Do we want a better future? Do we need more connection, more friends? Do we need to find our tribe?

The eclipse will activate Mars in Aquarius and make what’s called a square to Uranus. This is an eclipse that demands action as well as freedom. It’s a restless, impulsive, and even hotheaded eclipse. So it’s important to not to rush if you can. If you’re feeling argumentative, how will cooler heads prevail? How will you see the perspective of the other person? The ruler of the eclipse is Saturn and it’s strongly placed in Capricorn. While we may want to throw the proverbial baby out with the bathwater, Saturn in Capricorn is a call to strategize, prioritize, and make a plan.

The eclipse is also what’s called a South Node eclipse and it’s very important to keep in mind that while Aquarius is a sign that points us toward the future, the South Node means we have to deal with the past. Use this moon energy to let go of any feelings of disconnection and isolation, patterns of consciousness that keep us separated from our tribe, negative beliefs that prevent us from understanding each other as well as recognizing our place in the fabric of humanity.

Some of you will be feeling this eclipse more strongly. If you’re an Aquarius, this is a time when you’re in the spotlight. You may be stepping into or down from a position. You may be focused on your health and wellbeing, too. If you are a Taurus, Leo, or Scorpio, you’re at a crossroads and you may feel as though your life is quickly moving in a new direction. If you are an Aries or Scorpio in particular, this may feel like an uncomfortable eclipse in a way that feels emotionally overwhelming or jittery. Plus, Mars is retrograde. Things are changing, but it may take until September to actualize.

The polarity of Aquarius is Leo, which is to say that on the other end of the spectrum of humanity is the individual. We have to be ourselves even as we honor that we’re a part of something bigger, united in the fabric of humanity. And we have to be free.
