Welcome to the Scorpio Full Moon, a time in the lunar calendar when the spotlight is on the intense emotions and experiences of life. Scorpio is the sign of alchemy. As part of the axis of matter, Scorpio is the necessary decay that makes way for new beginnings. The full moon is exact on April 23, 2024 at 7:49 pm ET, 4 degrees Scorpio-Taurus. That’s 4:49 pm Los Angeles, 12:49 am London on April 24, 1:49 am, 5:19 am New Delhi, 9:49 am Sydney, and 11:49 am Auckland.
Full moons are decision points. They put matters in the spotlight, in full view. They can challenge and provoke. They can bring a resolution. Emotions run high. And while this full moon is not an eclipse, it comes two weeks after a solar eclipse in Aries, which means that events along the full moon may be connected to a larger story opened by the eclipses.
I realize “decay” is a strong word to use for Scorpio and likely a provocative word. Then again, Scorpio is a provocative sign. It reminds us that life has many seasons and change is unavoidable.
When the Sun is in Scorpio late October and into the first few weeks of November, we’re in a time when the leaves are changing, at least here in the northern hemisphere. The vivid red and golds of the trees are the colors that mark the end of a life cycle.
Here we are, and the Sun is in Taurus. The whites and pinks of the flowers as well as the bright greens of the trees are made possible by Scorpio. Thus is life.
Scorpio isn’t an easy sign to embrace, but it is a necessary sign. One of the ways I frame Scorpio for people is with a simple idea: Imagine a life where everything is the same. Imagine a life that is never examined. Do we change? Do we grow? Of course not.
So, with that in mind, this is a full moon to look at ourselves. Scorpio can reveal uncomfortable truths. But it’s the “light” of awareness that creates the alchemy of change and growth.
Fresh off eclipses in Libra and Aries, the relationship axis, Scorpio can help us work through themes of intimacy and trust, vulnerability and bracing emotional openness. It’s a sign that prioritizes relationships with people with whom we have a deep connection. But it also can reveal the secrets that we carry and even the dark side of relationships — control, power, manipulation, and obsession.
Mars, the ruler of the full moon, is still in Pisces, a double dose of water for this full moon. Both Scorpio and Pisces are water signs, an element that forges bonds, creates memory, and prepares us for new chapters.
Pisces speaks to the end of great cycles, the transition between lives, and the need to let go. With Mars alongside Neptune in Pisces, this will help us to tap into our intuition and dreams. It also favors mediumship and anything that positively helps us to connect to the world beyond this world.
Also in the chart of the full moon, the Scorpio Moon makes a tight square to Pluto in Aquarius. There’s a demand for a transformation or reformation. Jupiter is still next to Uranus in Taurus, too. There’s a strong potential for reinventions, especially personal reinventions and anything that shakes up the past.
In short, don’t shy away from the emotions that you are feeling. They are a voice emerging from the hidden parts of your psyche. They are a revelation that will bring light to a situation and help you to move on.
