Happy Aries New Moon! This is the time of the year when we start fresh, take action, and surge forward, revitalized and renewed. Aries is the leader, the fighter, and the individual. The new moon will be exact on April 7, 2016 at 7:23 am EDT, 18 degrees Aries. That’s 4:23 am Los Angeles, 12:23 pm London, and 9:23 pm Sydney.

Not only are new moons new beginnings, opening up a lunar month that will unfold over the coming 28 days, but Aries is the first sign of the zodiac. It corresponds with the rebirth of life after winter. We celebrate Easter and are culturally inundated with symbols of fertility — eggs, rabbits, flowers. But what happens when the new moon falls in alignment with Uranus and Pluto? We’re coming into a lunar month seeded with the energies of unpredictability, sudden changes, rebirth, and total transformation.

Uranus and Pluto are not easy energies. We know this all too well after limping through the last few years. If astrology tells us what time it is, the square formation between Uranus and Pluto that dominated the skies from 2012 to 2015 — and still does — will signal a shift in the coming days. In order for something to begin it has to end. Pluto teaches us that we can’t bring us, that there are forces beyond us — life and death forces. Uranus is consciousness, like the fire of Prometheus. These are metaphors to sit with, not to be afraid of. We have to see the things in our lives that have to go and then decide to take action.

Speaking of action, the energy of the new moon will point towards Mars in Sagittarius, digging into themes of faith, belief, enthusiasm, wisdom, and exploration. Ignited by the energy of the new moon, we’ll be in search of truth and meaning over the coming days and we’re going global in its pursuit. But Mars is square Neptune — where are we not seeing reality, where beliefs leading us astray, where have we forgotten our compassion and universality in the pursuit of a crusade? Further, where do we fight and where do we surrender?

This is a challenging new moon and thus a challenging lunar month. Thankfully Saturn makes a supportive trine to the energies, giving us an opportunity to ground all this fire and movement. Additionally, don’t forget to bring your fullest consciousness to the new moon. How do you want to use it? What positive breakthroughs do you want? What insights are you searching for? How will you cross the line? And what will you leave behind?
