Welcome to the Virgo Full Moon, the time in the lunar calendar when the spotlight is on health and wellness, service and helping others. As an earth sign, Virgo teaches us to take care of our bodies through diet and fitness as well as organize our daily lives. The full moon is exact on March 9, 2020 at 1:48 pm EDT, 19 degrees Virgo. That’s 10:48 am Los Angeles, 5:48 pm London, 4:48 am Sydney on March 10, and 6:48 am Auckland.
If the zodiac is the wheel of life, each of the twelve signs showing us how to live, then there has to be a sign that teaches us the value of eating foods that nourish the body, practicing good hygiene, and utilizing preventative health care. Virgo is such a sign. It’s purity and cleanliness. It’s practice, diligence, and discernment. It’s work, skills, and organization.
This is a full moon to get back to reality as well as back to basics. The Virgo Full Moon is often a great time to recommit to our New Year’s resolutions — you know, the ones that we made to bring our lives into order and work to be a better version of ourselves. What practical steps can we take with this full moon to do so?
It seems a little strange to write about the Virgo Full Moon without addressing current events, public health, and the possibility that we’re in early stages of a global pandemic. As a result, we may be hyper aware of purity and cleanliness at this time. Our day lives may be challenged or disrupted in some way that makes it more difficult to have a sense of order — Virgo themes.
I can’t comment on the astrology of current events because I don’t feel as though I can responsibly do so. But, with an eye to Virgo and its archetype, I can say that this is a full moon to practice more discernment, to be more organized, and think about what optimal health looks like for you. And since the Sun is conjunct Neptune in the chart of the full moon, we need more rest as well as better boundaries. We may not also be seeing things clearly since Neptune has a tendency to sow confusion.
Mercury, the ruler of the full moon, is about to turn direct at 28 degrees Aquarius, a sign that speaks to systems and networks and how we’re all connected. Aquarius is also a very intelligent placement for Mercury; it’s very science and technologically focused. Perhaps we’re feeling this is a time to get better informed, to seek out expert opinion and advice, and be more discerning about the systems and networks we’re apart of.
Right now Mercury’s all alone in Aquarius as it’s not making any aspects, so we may be feeling a little separate from the whole or isolated. If we are spending more time alone than usual, we can use the high side of Pisces and Neptune to reflect, meditate, and cultivate our intuition as well as our spirituality.
The full moon also picks up strong support from Mars, Jupiter, Pluto, and Saturn in Capricorn, a sign that helps us keep our feet on the ground and practically plan for the future. If you have ambitions and goals, this is certainly the full moon to get ahead where appropriate.
Lastly, this full moon comes as Saturn arrives at the last degree of Capricorn, bringing a story from the start of 2018 forward for review or resolution. Come March 21, Saturn will arrive in Aquarius for the first time since 1994. (What will this mean for you? Join me for a 90-minute interactive webinar Thursday, March 12. Details and registration here.)
So, be safe. Practice discernment and diligence. Make time for ritual. Check in with your goals and ambitions for this year. Keep your feet on the ground, but also cultivate good spiritual health as well as physical health.
