The Astrology of December 8, 2025

Mars and Saturn square off, a heavy start to the week as well as two planets that turn the clock wheels of our lives. It’s a day to feel the pressure of time and the duties and responsibilities that come with it. Between Sagittarius and Pisces, a matter of faith needs attention.

In classical astrology, Mars and Saturn are the “lesser and greater malefic”. They are seen as agents of fate and sometimes the misfortunes that come with it. However, when we take a more modern point of view, we can learn to appreciate the forge of Mars and the construction of Saturn — two planets that mark the milestones and achievements of our lives.

Today’s Mars-Saturn square, at 25 Sagittarius-Pisces, is a bit more philosophical in nature. Both Sagittarius and Pisces are ruled by Jupiter, which is to say governed by a planet that seeks to expand our horizons. Sagittarius is the external search for knowledge. Pisces is the search within. Both complement each other like two halves of the same coin.

Yet having knowledge is not the same as having wisdom. Here, Pisces opens us up to something greater — the deep understanding that true wisdom can only be found by going inward.

Mars square Saturn, as much as it may coincide with notable events in the days surrounding, will pull at something less material and tangible — our conscience, our compassion, our faith, our need to understand what is the meaning and purpose of life, if not the purpose of our lives.

Additionally, Mars is our immediate priorities. Saturn is our long term priorities. Both may come at odds this week, requiring that we seek to resolve the conflict. Ultimately, Saturn demands commitment and accountability; Mars demands action.

A few technicalities to note. The Mars-Saturn square activates the September solar eclipse at 29 Virgo. A seed planted at that time may reveal itself. This is also what’s called a closing square, the last major checkpoint in a cycle that began with the Mars-Saturn conjunction on April 10, 2024. The opening square was August 16, 2024 and the opposition was August 8, 2025 — all markers in a common story.
