Welcome to the Taurus New Moon and solar eclipse! This is the time in the lunar calendar when the focus is on money, resource, stability, security, and worth. We’re stepping into powerful new beginnings. The new moon is exact on Saturday, April 30 at 4:28 pm EDT, 10 degrees Taurus. That’s 1:28 pm Los Angeles, 9:28 pm London, 10:28 pm Johannesburg, 6:28 am Sydney on May 1, and 8:28 am Auckland.
New moons are new beginnings. So what happens when that new moon is a solar eclipse? Over the next six months, a few things will happen.
One, one of the major drivers in our experiences is to create stability in our lives, whether sorting out our relationship with money, making new investments, or gathering the material resources we need.
Taurus is not only an element earth sign, it’s the first earth sign. It speaks to our basic needs as humans — shelter, food, and stuff. It’s instinct as a sign is the shore up the most important elements that we need to survive as well as to create comfort, accumulate, and seek out pleasure. It wants property, ownership. It’s the fertility of life, the physical world in full bloom after the first sparks of Aires, the sign that precedes it.
Over the past few years, our very basics have been turned upside down. Our relationship with money, home, and touch is very different than it was back in 2018-2019. Our values have shifted. Currency means something that it didn’t before. The new moon is a push to recreate our lives, not in the image of the past, but in the image of something very new, all in the pursuit of stability, comfort, and … hopefully … pleasure.
Two, this isn’t just a solar eclipse in Taurus, it’s a solar eclipse in Taurus conjunct Uranus.
As an outer planet, Uranus’s job is to get us to grow and evolve by any means possible. It does this by shaking things up, opening up our eyes, and breaking us out of situations that confine us. Uranus often creates a crisis of radical authenticity. Since May 2018 and March 2019, Uranus has been in Taurus, and it’s quite possible that those months, or the months just after, were major turning points (especially if you’re a fixed sign of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius).
While this eclipse isn’t the first one in Taurus in the series — there was a lunar eclipse in Taurus on November 19, 2021 — it’s the first solar eclipse and the first to capitalize on the energies of Uranus in Taurus.
Over the coming days, weeks, and months, something has to radically shift. It’s quite possible that it’s already started to shift. The seeds were planted in 2018-2019. We’ve seen the story bend and weave through different points … May 2019, August 2019, November 2019, January 2020, May 2020, August 2020, November 2020, January 2021, May 2021, August 2021, November 2021, January 2022 …
I think the irony to this eclipse is that Taurus is so driven to create comfort, sometimes to a fault. So, as we step into a new phase of our Uranus in Taurus story, in order to get comfortable we have to first get uncomfortable.
Lastly, for all the shocks and surprises of Uranus, the energy of the eclipse points to Venus, Jupiter, and Neptune in Pisces. It’s a reminder to let go, surrender, allow things to flow. Pisces represents the end of the zodiac, the symbolic divide between one life and another, one cycle and another. It’s as far away from the solid ground of Taurus that you can get.
And, yet, it’s a reminder that whatever we’re creating over the next six months, our heart and soul better be in it. These new beginnings have to nourish us spiritually as well as physically. We have to forgive the past in order to move forward. It’s also a subtle yet powerful question that will thread its way through all our Taurus experiences — what’s the true value?
What will you answer?
