Welcome to September! It’s Virgo Season, a time when we get back to the basics of life. Virgo is an earth sign and for that we’re focusing on gathering and organizing what we need materially. It’s also harvest time, helping us to enjoy the fruits of our labors.

Although the Virgo New Moon falls just before the start of the month, its energies take us into September, inviting us to make new resolutions to eat healthier, take care of our bodies, start new projects, and clean up our lives. With Mars in Virgo, too, we’re extra motivated to make positive and healthy changes all month long. That said, Mars in Virgo has been known to be a bit of a workaholic and a perfectionist, so try to make sure you’re finding a balance or a positive outlet for its energies.

Since we’re getting a lot of support from Saturn in Capricorn as well as Uranus in Taurus — two fellow earth signs — this is a month to work to manifest new things into our lives, whether it’s a new job or innovative ways to earn a living. Virgo helps us to not only have discipline, but to a create a plan for making our ambitions as well as our dreams a reality. Be prepared to work for it, especially the first week of September as both the Sun, Mars, and Mercury harmonize with Saturn and Pluto.

On September 14 both Venus and Mercury change signs, arriving in Libra. For Venus, Libra is a sign it’s right at home in, which means that for the rest of September we’re feeling a strong pull to focus on our relationships, to make time for beauty and design, and create harmony in our lives. As for Mercury in Libra, we’re using our words diplomatically and trying to see and understand life from the perspective of others.

Also on September 14, a Pisces Full Moon highlights compassion and understanding. Pisces is a deeply empathic and intuitive sign and we may not only be feeling extra sensitive around the full moon, but aware of ourselves as part of something bigger — humanity. After all, the full moon is right on Neptune in Pisces. It’s a big hearted full moon, but one that may pull us into a deeper existential crisis or crisis of faith. With everything that’s going on in the world and all the darkness that is evident, will it all work out? It can feel overwhelming and disillusioning at times, especially with Jupiter squaring Neptune this month. But we must find something to anchor us this month, otherwise all these Neptune energies may pull us away like a flood.

That said, Saturn turns direct on September 18 in Capricorn, a sign it’s been retrograde in since April 28. If we need something to hold onto, then Saturn in Capricorn along with planets in Virgo help us to stay grounded. In particular, Saturn in Capricorn is teaching us major lessons around accountability, responsibility, and maturity. Have we been stepping up in our lives? Have we been doing the work that Saturn has been asking us? (Check out my Saturn in Capricorn: Sign by Sign article to see just where you’re being asked to do some hard work.) September is a report card on our progress.

By September 23 we slip into Libra Season, a time when we focus on our relationships and how we interact with each other. A Libra New Moon on September 28 will help us to set new intentions and resolutions to build new partnership in our lives, but with Venus squaring Pluto and Capricorn, we need to take a serious if sobering look at some of the underlying issues that show up in our relationships. We’re also getting a bump of eclipse energy as the new moon activates the July 2 solar eclipse. Doors may be closing and opening as we arrive in October. The wheel of life turns.

Read for your Sun and rising sign.

Aries Glyph

Time to get back to work, Aries; it’s Virgo Season. Not only is Mars, your ruling planet, moving through Virgo, but a Virgo New Moon kicks off the month, helping you to prioritize new projects and new initiatives. What needs to get done in September? The cosmos is giving you a lot of energy and motivation in the first week or so of the month. So, start things off by writing out a to-do list and include on it anything that’s fallen by the wayside or was not finished. Mars in Virgo is quite task oriented. It’s focused. It wants things clean and streamlined. It needs a job as well as a physical outlet for all its energy. One of those outlets this month is health. If you need to get back to the gym this month or make some healthy changes, use the energies of the Virgo New Moon to make a new resolution or revisit old ones. In all, September is about real life — making sure your life runs smoothly by showing up on time, eating right, getting fresh air, and even looking towards bigger goals and ambitions. In fact, Saturn’s encouraging you this month to set a high bar for yourself professionally and to take on new responsibilities, especially when Saturn turns direct on September 18. Think of this month as a big check in on how you’re working to build your career and ambitions. Saturn, like a parent, can be very demanding when we’re not reaching our potential. So September is a month when you can’t cut corners or show up late … because Saturn is watching. Keep in mind that Saturn’s been in your career sign since the start of 2018 and won’t leave until the end of 2020. You’re half way through a three year process of making your mark in the world, defining what you want to be when you grow up regardless of age, and stepping into positions of authority. Make a note of what’s coming up for you around September 18 because it’s part of a story that has been unfolding since the beginning of 2018 and won’t wrap up until December 2020. That said, as you come up to the Pisces Full Moon on September 14 with Mars facing off with Neptune, you may have to find the balance between what you can control and what’s out of your control. With Neptune, it’s not about what we want, but what’s going to help the greater spiritual good. You may even have to let something go around the full moon, something that you’ve been carrying like baggage for quite some time. It may even be an old belief or something having to do with faith. That said, with the spiritual energies of Pisces plus the earthly energies of Virgo Season, make sure you’re tending to your health — body, mind, and soul. Venus also moves into Libra on September 14, which means that the rest of September will focus on relationships, especially after the Sun arrives in Libra on September 23. You’re still working hard this month on work and projects, but you’ll also start to feel a pull to connect and socialize. If you’re in a relationship, how do you tend to your partner needs in addition to your own? If you’re single and looking for something new, the arrival of the Sun and Venus in Libra plus the Libra New Moon on September 28 may give you a natural opportunity to start a new relationship. Taurus

April 20–May 20

Taurus Glyph

You’re in your element this month, Taurus. With Venus in Virgo for the first two week of September along with support from Saturn in Capricorn and Uranus in Taurus, it’s all about earth. It’s the element that puts you back on solid ground. It helps you to shore up your resources. It gives you a sense of stability and security. As an earth sign, Taurus, these are the things you need and crave. So, use September wisely. There’s a lot of opportunities to open doors and bring ideas into reality, especially with the Virgo New Moon at the start of the month, but as you know, it’s going to take some work. Good thing Virgo Season is here to help you plan, organize, and set a schedule. It’s also a month for you to share and express who you are with others. Virgo Season is a time when you get to cultivate a deeper sense of self and to focus on your talents. The new moon may also open doors to new romance this month, too. With Mars, your relationship planet, making aspects to Uranus, be open to the unexpected or even the unconventional. That said, faith and belief are also a big theme this month. With Saturn turning direct on September 18, it’s time for you to figure out what you believe in or at least get closer to defining it. Ever since Saturn arrived in Capricorn at the start of 2018, you’ve been on a three year journey to find faith and meaning in your life. Maybe you’ve struggled with faith at times — faith in yourself, faith in others, or even faith in an institution. Maybe you’ve opened up to seeing the world as well as yourself in a much different way. Maybe you’ve even invested in your education more seriously. Keep this in mind as Saturn’s direct turn is like a check in with the boss or the teacher. Have you been learning your lessons? A full moon on September 14 puts the future in the spotlight. As you contemplate life’s bigger questions, the full moon is prompting you to look ahead. It’s important to not lose sight of your goals and ambitions. But the full moon also highlight these deeper feelings around belonging as well as finding your place amongst friends and allies. Sometimes we have to make sacrifices for something bigger. Sometimes it’s not about what we want, but the greater good. Venus also changes signs on September 14, arriving in Libra and kicking off three weeks to focus on your work, health, organization, and projects. In fact, the Sun’s arrival in Libra on September 23 followed by a Libra New Moon on September 28 means that you’re straddling two seasons this month, one oriented towards the self and how you express that self versus getting down to business and tending to the practical details of daily life. October is going to be a lot more focused on work, so enjoy some relaxation the first couple of weeks of September. Want to learn more about how the astrology of September will affect you? Now that Mercury, your ruling planet, is in Virgo, you can start to slow down a little this month. After all, Virgo Season is a time in your personal calendar when you naturally pull back from the world and focus on home and family. And with Mars in Virgo all month long, don’t be surprised if there’s a lot going on in the home in September. You may be moving, you may be making changes in your living situation, or you may be focused on projects around the home. But home is just representative of something deeper, this idea that home — and by extension Virgo Season — is a time when you need to tend to the foundation of your life. Virgo is an earth sign, so make sure the ground is beneath your feet this month. There’s also a theme this month around emotions, from the emotional connection you have with family and people who are like family to deeper emotions like intimacy and vulnerability. If not, you may be struggling with mixed emotions around your direction in life and the full moon may prompt you to make a career decision. So make sure you’re taking the time this month to think about what you want to do in the world and how your ambitions and your heart can be in alignment. What does it mean to be heard? This Virgo Season, with Mars leading the charge, you have something to say. It may be a bit pointed and it may ruffle some feathers, so to speak, but don’t let that stop you from speaking up. In fact, a new moon kicks September off, giving you a perfect time to recommit to being heard as well as all forms of communication. You may also be quite busy this month — busy with work, appointments, and travel. That said, the real crux of this month is relationships courtesy of Saturn in Capricorn. This has been an area you’ve been doing a lot of hard work on since the start of 2018. What have you learned? Hopefully you’ve stepped up to Saturn’s lessons and made commitments to people, created balance in your partnerships, and learned to compromise. If relationships are still an area that’s a bit wobbly (and I mean all relationships, not just romantic ones) keep in mind that Saturn’s direct turn on September 18 is a major check in on your progress. This is meant to be a time in your life where a serious relationship comes in, or you recommit to an existing partnership, or you break off a relationship because it doesn’t have the strength to continue. But, by the end of 2020, you’ll have completed Saturn’s relationship intensive course. Before you can graduate, you’ll need to get a report card. Think of September as that — a check in. And since Virgo Season is a time to connect with your voice, make sure you’re spiffing up your communication skills as well this month. A full moon on September 14 puts foreign travel, education, and the world in the spotlight. It also speaks to faith and belief. The full moon may be asking you, do you still have faith? What do you believe in? With the energies of Neptune strong in the full moon, you may be feeling a little disillusioned. But it’s also the time to let go of a lot of old beliefs and open up to a new way of seeing the world. The second half of September pulls you towards home, family, and putting down roots. The Sun’s arrival in Libra on September 23 followed by a Libra New Moon on September 28 means that you’re stepping into a new month where you may be moving, making a change in the home, or focusing on family matters. Since the new moon also picks up on the energies of July’s eclipse, you may be at a crossroads as you arrive in October. Doors are opening and closing. Get ready. Birthday season was fun while it lasted. As you blew out the candles on another year, did you make a wish or two? The good thing about Virgo Season is that it helps you to make a plan and take the practical steps towards making those wishes real. In fact, you start the month with a Virgo New Moon, which means it’s a good time to sit down and make that list of what you want and what you need to do in order to get what you want. Virgo is also one of your money signs (the other is Pisces) and it’s a season to take a keen eye to your bank account, do an inventory of what you own, and see where things could use some tidying up. (Virgo does want things nice and organized.) And if you’re not getting enough of this Virgo energy, Saturn’s direct turn on September 18 in your sign of health, wellness, organization, and projects means that you’re already in a year where you’ve got to get your act together. Actually you’ve been in this phase since the beginning of 2018. Saturn is merely checking in on your progress, like a parent or even a coach. And like a good coach, Saturn is pushing you hard for you to take your life seriously and reach your goals. So, maybe you’re going to the gym more this month. Maybe you’re eating more vegetables. Maybe you’re cutting something out of your diet or your daily life that no longer supports you. Maybe you’re making a doctor’s appointment for a check up. A full moon on September 14 puts the deepest, most vulnerable parts of yourself in the spotlight. It’s a full moon to face yourself, especially the parts of you that normally are hidden. Use this energy to forgive yourself and others, to release any old sufferings, and find spiritual healing. If you’re feeling a little emotionally overwhelmed around this time, make sure you have a guide to help you navigate. Moving into the second half of September, it’s possible that you’re quite busy with appointments or getting things done in the neighborhood. Since you’ve been in a period of your life where you’re at the beginning of a possible career shift, the second half of the month and into October may be a time when you’re gathering information or taking classes, all to help support you in this ongoing or future change in your career. Additionally, there’s a full moon on September 14 that puts relationships in the spotlight. With its energies of Neptune and Jupiter, you may be questioning your faith in things, especially a partnership. As you start the month you may be in a reflective mood, you may be pulling back from the world and seeking answers within. After all, Virgo Season is a spiritual time for you. One where you wrap up a personal year that began with your last birthday, take stock of how you’ve grown older and wise, and shed the baggage that you don’t want to bring with you into your new year. September kicks off with a new moon, one that may have you feeling a little low on energy. If you need to rest, then rest. If you need to meditate, then meditate. Your dreams may also be more vivid and insightful than usual, so make a note of them if you can. While Virgo Season does speak to focusing on health, for you Virgo Season is when you’re focusing on your spiritual health. What’s your relationship with the world beyond this one? It helps you to laser on the details, organizing and building towards your goals. You’re also in a season where you’re starting to come to the end of a personal year. What did you learn about yourself? What did you achieve? What are your hopes and wishes for the coming year? It’s also a season where you’re connecting with friends and community. You’re motivated to make connections and network, too. A new moon kicks off the month, opening a new lunar month dedicated to building friendships and allies. As you go into September, make sure you’re socializing and saying yes to invitations because it’s a month to meet new people, especially like minded people or people interested in similar social causes. In fact, Mars is getting support from Saturn in the beginning of the month, so make sure you’re thinking big and taking action with your plans. Additionally, a Pisces Full Moon on September 14 puts your talents, your identity, your creativity in the spotlight. It’s a full moon to revel in yourself and to express who you are, maybe enjoy a little romance, too. When the Sun arrives in Libra on September 23, you’re dipping into a part of your chart that’s about letting go, retreating from the world, and reflecting on life’s deeper questions. Although September may be a social time as you connect with friends, you’re also feeling a pull inward. Sagittarius

November 22–December 21

Sagittarius Glyph

Let’s take a step back and frame September as part of a bigger story that’s been unfolding this year — creating material stability for yourself and learning to have a better relationship with money. Sound familiar? That’s because Saturn’s been in your money sign of Capricorn since 2018, putting you through your paces, and potentially even showing up as changes in how you earn a living and what you value. I mention this for two reasons. One, it’s Virgo Season and Virgo is your career sign. It speaks to your ambitions in the world, the work that you need to put in order to achieve your goals. It also speaks to your responsibilities and how people see you. The new moon that falls just before the start of September means that this is a perfect month for you to work hard to make something of yourself this month, from new career initiatives to a change in career or even going after a new position. As you know, work and money are intimately related, whether we like it or not. In astrology, Virgo and Capricorn are earth signs; earth is money, status, resource, and stability. So whatever is going on in career this month is directly tying into this larger story around money. Which leads me to my second point. Saturn turns direct in Capricorn on September 18. And when Saturn turns direct, it’s a big check in with this story that you’ve been working through around creating more material stability for yourself as well as a more mature relationship with money. What do you think Saturn will say about your progress? If you’re feeling a lot of conflicted emotions about this, just know that Saturn as your best interests in mind. It’s like a life coach that’s trying to motivate you to be your best self and, in this case, have a rock solid material foundation that can support wealth for the future. See, that doesn’t sound so bad, right? There’s a lot of earth energy in the sky this month, so it simply means that in September you’re working and working towards bigger goals. That said, let’s not forget home and family. A full moon on September 14 puts this part of your life in the spotlight, saying that it’s important to have strong roots to support all this work you’re doing this month. It a time when you’re thinking about what you need in order to feel emotionally fulfilled this month. On a more mundane level, the full moon may prompt a decision about your living situation and it may be a natural time for you to consider moving or making a change in the home. Family matters may come to light, especially anything around parents, ancestors, and memories. If strong emotions come up around the full moon, especially something steeped in the past or something from childhood, don’t be surprised. Release whatever emotions you’ve been carrying. Forgive if you need to forgive. With Jupiter making its final of three squares to Neptune on September 21, you may also be grappling with questions of faith and meaning. It’s been a bit of a hard year for you, Sagittarius. Don’t lose hope. Yes, your trademark optimism has dimmed a bit in 2019, but all this soul searching is going to make you smarter and wiser in the long run. By September 23 the Sun moves into Libra and you’re entering a time when friends and community take the spotlight. A Libra New Moon on September 28 means that, as you go into October, you’re opening a new four week chapter focused on making new friendships and new connections in your community. If you need more community in your life, it’s definitely going to be a priority in October. Stay tuned. Want to learn more about how the astrology of September will affect you? December 22–January 19

Let’s put aside for the moment that it’s Virgo Season. The big news this month is that Saturn, your ruling planet, turns direct on September 18, completing a retrograde that began on April 29. Now, Saturn Retrograde isn’t an unusual thing; it happens once a year and always lasts for five months. During this period you’re meant to pull back, reflect, and integrate on the lessons that you’ve been learning the months previous to the retrograde. And since you’re the sign of mastery and achievement, there’s always a fair bit of pressure on you to “get” what you’re supposed to be getting. Keep in mind that Saturn has been in Capricorn since the start of 2018, which means that you’ve been in a nearly two year period of stepping up, taking on more responsibility, and starting something new. You’re already a sign that knows how to handle pressure, but I think this year has really asked a lot of you and that continues as Saturn makes you feel the weight of time, getting older, and the reality of life. As you may already intuitively know, a lot needs to change this year and September is likely going to put a lot of things into focus after your step back since May. That said, now it’s time to move forward. As you do so, keep in mind that you’re continuing to tear down old walls, as if you’re an old house in the midst of a gut renovation. I know that can be exhausting, so thankfully you have Virgo Season to remind you to get some TLC. Virgo loves ritual and care, recuperation and healing. It’s also one of your travel signs and you may have big plans to take a trip as you step into September. You may also be in a philosophical mood as this is the time of year for you to figure out what you still believe in after life’s recent ups and downs. A full moon on September 14 is an invitation to heal and let things go and you may need to have a conversation with someone to do so, one that reveals your point of view but also hears another side of things. Career is also a focus this month, especially once the Sun arrives in Libra on September 23. You may be making a career move later this month or taking on new responsibilities. If you’re looking to make a serious change or get a professional refresh, use the energies of the new moon on September 28 to plant seeds for new ambitions and goals you want to reach for in the world. The new moon also activates the energies of the July eclipses and it’s possible that a story that began then takes a new turn as you step into October. Aquarius

January 20–February 18

Aquarius Glyph

There’s a month in every sign’s journey through the zodiac when it has to go within and face itself. Meaning, a time when you have to feel your feelings and dig into what’s beneath them. Virgo Season is such a time for you, your annual descent into yourself to face your fears, face the past, and shed light on your darkness. So, if you’re feeling sensitive as you step into September you’ll know why. But, with Mars in Virgo all month long, you’re motivated to do the investigation work. It’s also a month when emotional health is a focus and you may want to set some new goals or initiatives to take care of yourself. If you’ve been feeling like you need to reach out to a counselor, guide, or therapist, it’s the perfect time to do so. The work doesn’t just extend to emotional health. It’s also a month to look at finances, paying close attention to debt as well as wealth and assets. That said, the big news this month is that Saturn, your ruling planet, turns direct on September 18. In a way, you could say that you’ve been pulling back from the world since late April, when Saturn turned retrograde. Already 2019 is a time when you’re pulling back from the world to reflect and search for deeper spiritual or existential answers, but the last five months may have been a near hibernation of sorts. During this time maybe you felt low on energy or more in need of time alone. Maybe you’ve needed to recuperate or shed a lot of ancient baggage. As Saturn turns direct in Capricorn, you’re entering a time when you’re going to be wrapping up an old life and preparing for a new one, one that will start to begin in March 2020 when Saturn arrives in Aquarius. Maybe you’re feeling a lot of conflicted emotions as you grieve for an old life while feeling hopeful for a new one. Pay attention to your dreams and intuition, too. September is a month when you’re more sensitive than usual to more subtle spiritual energies. A full moon on September 14 puts money and income in the spotlight. You may have a decision to make about how you earn a living or you may need to get very clear about what you need in order to feel safe and secure. The full moon may also help you to look at feelings of diminished self worth, giving you an opportunity to heal and let go. By the last half of the month, as Venus arrives in Libra on September 14 as well as the Sun on September 23, you’re moving into a time when travel and education take priority. You may very well have a long distance journey or foreign vacation in the works or you’re taking steps to go back to school. But, after all you’ve been through this year and all the deep soul searching you’ve done at points, do you know what you believe in? Do you still have faith? September and October will help you to answer that question. Want to learn more about how the astrology of September will affect you? Book your consultation now.

Pisces

February 19–March 20

Pisces Glyph

What does it mean to compromise? To socialize? Reach out and open up to people? Virgo Season is your season to focus on relationships, from how you interact with others to your intimate relationships. In fact, you’ve been doing this since August when Mars arrived in Virgo. The thing about Mars is that while relationships run on diplomacy, Mars can be anything but. If your relationships have been a bit pointed or heated recently, how will you use September to turn over a new leaf? The month starts off with a Virgo New Moon, helping you to open doors and new opportunities to do so. With both Venus and Mars in Virgo for the first half of the month, make sure you’re saying what needs to be said and smoothing things over with someone, especially if there’s been recent arguments. If you’re single and looking to open up to a new serious partnership, the first half of September gives you your best time this year. On September 14 a Pisces Full Moon puts you in the spotlight. It’s a time for you to take action and go after what you want, especially in your career. But the full moon highlights a deeper issue that has been running its way through 2019 — soul searching and a crisis of faith. With Jupiter, your ruling planet, making a square to Neptune all year long, there have been times this year when you’ve possibly felt emotionally and psychically overwhelmed or wondering if any of this is worth it. With the full moon’s activation of Neptune in Pisces plus Jupiter’s last square to Neptune September 21, don’t lose hope. Sometimes it feels like you’re grieving for the world, Pisces. You feel so much, especially the pain of others. That said, the world needs your big heart as well as your compassion. Who else would teach us how to love unconditionally and to forgive. Another angle to this full moon, something a little more prosaic, is that you need to look at themes around self sacrifice, especially how that shows up in relationships and career. Again, the world needs you. Speaking of relationships, on September 18, when Saturn turns direct in Capricorn, you’re getting a big check on your work this year to build community and friendships. In fact, Saturn’s been in this part of your chart since the start of 2018 and it’s possible that you’ve seen significant changes in your friendships. If you’re feeling a little isolated at this time, remember that Saturn is trying to push you to connect and make rock solid connections with friends and like minded allies. By the end of the month, a Libra New Moon on September 28 puts the focus on your deeper emotional self, stirring up themes of intimacy and vulnerability. As a result, you may be feeling a bit sensitive in the second half of the month, especially as you come to the end of the month. Again, if much of September is about relationships, both personal and collective, make sure you’re doing the deeper emotional work to help your relationships grow even stronger.
