Welcome to the Scorpio New Moon, the time in the lunar calendar when we descend into our underworld to discover our unresolved self. By facing our fears and vulnerabilities, we access the alchemy of change. The new moon is exact on November 4, 2021 at 5:14 pm EDT, 12 degrees Scorpio. That’s 2:14 pm Los Angeles, 9:14 pm London, 11:14 pm Johannesburg, 8:14 am Sydney (November 5), and 10:14 am Auckland.

New moons are new beginnings. They open up a chapter that will be lived through its energies and archetypes. When we arrive at Scorpio, we arrive at the 8th sign of the zodiac, one that brings us to the razor edge between life and death. It’s in Scorpio that we truly experience the duality of life, weighing the light and dark within, making powerful choices, and learning lessons that offer us true wealth — the wealth that Scorpio is known for.

That said, Scorpio doesn’t pull its punches. Then again, why should it? It’s a sign that tests us, but it’s a sign that also forges us in its emotional, psychological, and spiritual energies. And for that, the month ahead is one of alchemy and transformation.

This isn’t an ordinary new moon. Not because of Scorpio, but because it picks up on the seismic energies of Saturn square Uranus. In many ways November galvanizes many of the changes we’ve been making all year long courtesy of this long square.

As I’ve been saying for many months, in 2021 it’s as if we have one foot in a new life, one still firmly in another. November is a month when we have to wrench ourselves free of the past. For some, this may feel like we’re being torn apart. For others it’s a liberation. For all, we can’t keep holding onto something that has long since passed.

To this point, the new moon makes an exact opposition to Uranus in Taurus. As a modern planet, it doesn’t function like a classical planet. Uranus doesn’t speak to everyday life. Instead, it’s a planet whose function is to get us out of our own way by any means possible. It demands radical authenticity. It has no sentimentality in its force to free us from the past or anything that limits and imprisons. It works in rapid strokes. It can feel like a lightning bolt, a flash of insight that completely changes everything.

It’s my feeling that this new moon and the full moon on November 19 that follows is a direct link in a story that began in May 2018, March 2019 when Uranus first entered Taurus and began to rearrange and transform what we never though would change. With that in mind, things may take a bit of a turn.

Of course, the new moon makes a square to Saturn in Aquarius. Whatever impulses and radical rethinks we have has to be made solid. We are in the midst of building new structures and new connections. We need to take things seriously. Saturn sure is.

The new moon is also powered by Mars in Scorpio, so this is why November may bring in the powerful forces of change and rebirth, whether internally or externally. It may push us to release, purge, and to let go. Through that we can begin again.

But most importantly, this new moon opens up a lunar month punctuated by a lunar eclipse. As you may know, eclipse energy can make life move very swiftly in a new direction, closing one door and opening another. It can put a spotlight on something, force major decisions and commitments, or bring us to a crossroads.

So, with that in mind, November is a pivotal month in a year of pivots. Get ready to let go of the past and step into something new.
