Happy Cancer New Moon! We’re starting a new cycle in all things home, family, self care, and nurturing. Cancer is a sign that invites us to make time for the things that matter the most. It is our roots as well as the foundation we call home. It’s nostalgia, memories, and emotional connections. Over the coming lunar cycle, we will plant our seeds in support of these themes. The new moon is exact at 4:08 am EDT on June 27, 2014 and 5 degrees Cancer.
Like watering a plant and giving it plenty of sunlight, Cancer reminds us that we need to feed and nurture for the things that sustain us in life. After the rough couple of months we’ve had, what better time than to check in and engage in a little self care. What are you starving for? Is it a home cooked meal and people to share it with? Someone’s hand to hold? A feeling of safety in uncertain times? To know that we are loved and not alone? If we’re not thriving, time to seek out the sustenance that will fill our soul.
In the new moon chart, the Sun and Moon are in a tight trine (120 degrees apart; harmonious) to Neptune in Pisces. There’s a lot of sensitivity nestled into this new lunar chapter. Anytime you throw an outer planet into the mix you involve forces that are outside the ego and Neptune is the reconnection to the divine source. The trine between the Sun, Moon, and Neptune will lead us back to the spiritual waters. It’s food for the soul and if what we’ve really been starving for is the knowing that we’re not alone on this journey in life, the new moon will replenish us in a time of spiritual drought and existential crisis.
I keep thinking of the Divine Mother in all her various archetypes — Mother Mary, Kwan Yin, Amma. For many of you, the mother was anything but divine, leaving deep wounds upon your hearts. You’ve struggled through feelings of rejection and abandonment, the memories of a mother who drank, manipulated, raged, or consumed you like Cronus devouring his children. It carved a pattern that has influenced how you cared and nurtured yourself as an adult. This new moon is a beautiful moment to reset that old pattern as Neptune offers to open us up to the higher expression of the mother archetype.
So, surrender your sorrows, your fears, your untended grief, and give it up to the Divine Mother. If you need to cry, cry. Cancer is us at our most tender and vulnerable. Venus, the ruler of the Libra North Node, is square Neptune too. In order to move forward on our evolutionary journey, we must see past many of the illusions that we’ve invested so heavily in — even if its the illusion that there’s no one to care and love us.
Speaking of evolutionary journeys, Jupiter is exactly square (90 degrees apart; stressful) not only the lunar nodes but the 10/18/2013 and 4/15/2014 eclipse degrees of 25 Aries/Libra. This is kind of a big deal as Jupiter will trigger a process what began on these dates. The square to the nodes will speak to a spiritual imperative — we must do this planet, we must resolve our family karma, we must heal anything that keeps us from being open hearted. It’s a crucial step in our evolution. Feeling like we’re not alone and that we are part of a family unit will help us resolve the Aries/Libra polarity. Again, call upon the Divine Mother in whatever avatar you are drawn towards. Allow her to help you bring in more care, forgiveness, nurturing, and connection into your life. Allow her to help heal any wounds you’ve been carrying around your mother.
