Welcome to the Libra New Moon, the time in the lunar calendar when we turn our attention to relationships in their many forms. We’re also striving to create equity and balance over the coming four weeks. The Libra New Moon is exact on October 6, 2021 at 7:06 am EDT, 13 degrees. That’s 4:06 am Los Angeles, 12:06 pm London, 1:06 pm Johannesburg, 10:06 pm Sydney, and 12:06 am Auckland on October 7.
New moons are new beginnings. Time to turn the page and experience life through a different lens. With the focus on Libra over the next few weeks, we’re feeling inspired to connect to others, make alliances and partnerships, and start new relationships. That said, with Mars and Pluto active with the astrology, relationships may have to work to reform or transform.
Astrology teaches us that we can’t do life alone. And Libra, as the sign of the scales, is a perfect reminder. If we’re too self involved or singularly minded, the scale tips one one. But if we’re overly reliant on others or lose our individuality, the scale tips the other way. How do we find balance?
While Libra is known for playing nice and finding diplomatic solutions, this isn’t your usual Libra New Moon. It exactly joins up with Mars, a planet that is better suited for self motivated Aries than Libra. Instead, Mars has to learn to find compromise, something that’s not in its usual vocabulary. It also means that the coming weeks may be a spark or even a confrontation. Perhaps we’re feeling inspired to socialize and connect. Or take action and put things right. Or have the bravery to find a common solution.
Mars certainly makes things happen. This is certainly a new moon to move forward. Ironic considering that Mercury is retrograde. Which is to say, Mercury wants us to think first before impulsively taking action. Perhaps this is a saving grace.
Then there’s Pluto Direct, which happens just hours after the new moon. Mars and Pluto have similar motives; they just work on different levels. Mars wants physical action. Pluto wants soul action. It’s possible that something previous hidden comes to light. Something in our blindspot is now there for all to see. We has to do the work of reformation, especially around any shadowy relationship themes — power, control, obsession, and manipulation.
Speaking of which, Venus, the ruler of the new moon, is at the end of Scorpio. We’re navigating themes intimacy and vulnerability. This isn’t just a new moon about relationships, it’s also about all the things that happen behind closed doors. Like Pluto, Scorpio wants transformation.
So, not your average Libra New Moon. While there’s some prickliness and potential volatility as emotions and other energies come to light, the new moon picks up support from Saturn and Jupiter. Whatever happens, we have an opportunity to forge new alliances and build new structures.
