Welcome to the Gemini Full Moon. The spotlight is on ideas and information, communication and education. Gemini helps us to see both sides of things, to gather new experiences and to be curious about life. The full moon is exact on December 18, 2021 at 11:36 pm EST, 27 degrees Gemini/Sagittarius. That’s 8:36 pm Los Angeles, 4:36 am London on December 19, 6:36 am Johannesburg, 3:36 pm Sydney, and 5:36 pm Auckland.
Gemini and Sagittarius are the signs that help us to learn about and discover the world. They are two sides of the same coin. Whereas Gemini is about words and language, Sagittarius takes these words and makes concepts, forges wisdom, and builds knowledge.
The irony to this is that we’re coming out of an eclipse season where the South Node of the Moon is in Sagittarius and the North Node is in Gemini. There’s a sort of reverse logic at play. How do we deconstruct what we know to be true? Get to the root of concepts and beliefs? How do we find new ideas to reshape our wisdom? What’s the source material?
Although this full moon isn’t an eclipse, it punctuates a lunar month that began with a solar eclipse in Sagittarius. The days around the full moon may bring forward a new beginning seeded with the December 4 solar eclipse. And since full moons are decision points, there’s something that may demand our attention.
At the core of this full moon is a need for new perspectives and new decisions. After coming out the other side of eclipse season, what now? Time to weigh our options, make sure we have all the information, and set things in motion.
With Mercury, the ruler of the full moon over in Capricorn, there’s a soberness to this full moon. These aren’t just ideas and concepts, these are milestones that shape and build our lives. We have to get real. The full moon may force a serious or lasting decision.
Mercury also makes a square to Chiron in Aries, which means that our decisions may feel poignant, too. Do we have the courage to move forward? To chose the best option even though it may be hard? The Sun and Moon’s square to Neptune means that there’s something that we have to surrender; we need to get out of our way. Compassion and forgiveness may be needed. It’s the realization that there’s things that are greater than us and all we can do is let the current take us.
That said, the full moon gets support from Jupiter in Aquarius in the form of a generous trine. Whatever we’re navigating, we’ve got the faith to make the leap, we don’t feel alone, whether it’s the presence of good friends or the sense that the Universe will see us through.
