Happy Sagittarius Full Moon! This is the time of the year when we shine a light on faith, wisdom, religion, philosophy, law, foreign travel, and the search for truth and meaning. Full moons are culminations, decision points, a time when we see the fruits of our actions. With that in mind, the Sagittarius Full Moon will arrive on June 2, 2015 at 12:19 pm EDT, 11 degrees Sagittarius/Gemini. For those further afield, that’s 9:19 am LA, 5:19 pm London, 2:19 am Sydney on 6/3.
Faith isn’t exactly a new concept for us right now; Saturn’s in Sagittarius after all. Poised to leave the sign after a brief foray, this full moon is a referendum the first leg of our Saturn in Sagittarius journey. We’ve had five months to get used to Saturn’s new list of demands: What do we believe? What do we turn to in our darkest moments? What wisdom have we gained from our sometimes deeply painful experiences of the last few years? What is our truth?
Sagittarius is the sign of earthly spirituality. Through its lens we’re on a quest for meaning that can take us to various spiritual expressions and religions. Perhaps over the last few months you’ve been motivated, more so than ever, to find answers in teachings or different practices. The full moon will ask, are these teachings working for you? Is it time to reorient your spiritual compass?
Although faith is often synonymous with religion, we can experience faith in many ways — faith in reason, faith in diplomacy, or a bleak faith that at the end of the day it’s every person for his or herself. Faith can be dark. It can blind. There’s an irony in Sagittarius that a sign so associated with growth and expansion can also harbor the crushing weight of fundamentalism and self righteousness. Therefore this will be a time to examine our own misguided beliefs and the times when our own truth has blinded us from universal truths.
This is a complicated full moon. Opposing Mars in Gemini, it will confront and spur us to take action. Then again Mercury is retrograde so there may be an uncomfortable back and forth. Jupiter, the ruler of the full moon, is in Leo: How is our sense faith inexorably tied, for better or worse, to our sense of self or ego? How do we take a risk or make a leap of faith? Jupiter trine Uranus? How do we awaken to new truths? How do we break away from old beliefs?
More importantly the full moon will be in hard aspect to Neptune. Not too long ago, when I asked spirit about a block in my life, they shared that blocks are when will and potential are out of alignment. With the full moon squaring Neptune, this is good advice to keep close. Sometimes we have to completely surrender with the faith that a higher power has a plan bigger than we can comprehend. Sometimes we need to stop fighting spirit and align to our fullest potential, which might not be what the ego wants.
Sometimes we need to let go.
