Welcome to the Capricorn Full Moon, a lunar eclipse that is also the final in a series of three. We conclude eclipse season on a serious note; Saturn is back in Capricorn, too. This is a lunar eclipse that demands responsibility and that we step things up. That said, this full moon was exact July 5, 2020 at 12:44 am EDT, 13 degrees Capricorn. That’s 9:44 pm in Los Angeles on July 4, 5:44 am in London on July 5, 2:44 pm Sydney, and 4:44 pm Auckland.
If full moons shine a light on certain things in our lives, then lunar eclipses bring a sense of urgency. Something is unavoidable. And with a full moon lunar eclipse in Capricorn, we all need to take a serious look at our relationship with authority, leadership, responsibility, and maturity. Capricorn is the builder, too. What are we building? Something that’s going to last into the future? Or something that has an unstable foundation?
This lunar eclipse comes right after Saturn returned to Capricorn after a three month preview of Aquarius. We’ve gone back to something we were diligently and sometimes exhaustively working on since December 19, 2017, when Saturn first arrived in Capricorn. When we look back, what do we see? Think of this eclipse as the last push — the last push to completely master something a powerful lesson. (Need a reminder on what you’ve been working on? Read Saturn in Capricorn: Sign by Sign.)
Let’s not forget that Saturn, back in Capricorn, is in the vicinity of Pluto. Although the two planets will not meet up again as they did back in January, this is still a reminder that we need to tear down, excavate, transform, and reform the structures both internal and external that are no longer working.
Despite this intense energy, I respect Saturn’s long game. If we’re feeling overwhelmed, how do we sit down with Saturn, like a life coach or personal trainer, and remap out our goals and ambitions? What do we want to achieve by December? Saturn loves it when we set goals. In fact, set small goals and big goals. The small goals help us to feel a sense of achievement and momentum. The large goals help us to keep our eye on the bigger prize.
Is Saturn in a financial sign for you? Maybe creating a spreadsheet of all of your accounts is a small goal. A large goal could be paying down a debt or making a major investment. Is Saturn in a relationship sign? Maybe a small goal is setting a boundary with someone. Maybe a large goal is a healthier, more equitable relationship. And, for perspective, measure where you were when Saturn first arrived in Capricorn two and half years ago.
Mars is in Aries right now. We actually have some help as Mars helps us find bravery and courage to move forward. Yes, the full moon is square Chiron. It’s possible that something very old from the past is coming up — a discouragement, a pain, an insecurity — but it’s only coming up so we can work to heal it.
At the end of the day let’s remember what Saturn wants from us — commitment, accountability, balance, equity, and maturity. You can do it!
