We start the week as two powerful forces come up against each other. Mars in Aries makes a square to Saturn in Capricorn. This is a test of our efforts, a reality check, or a need for more discipline and responsibility. We’re setting hard boundaries, too.
In traditional astrology, Mars and Saturn have a bit of a reputation. And rightly so. If Mars is action, initiative, and drive, then its square to Saturn means that all this drive and initiative runs up against Saturn’s tendency to limit and constrict. Mars square Saturn can feel like a wall or as if someone hit the brakes. It’s a moment when we realize the karma of our actions. After all, Saturn is the planet that governs over cause and effect.
I have Mars square Saturn natally, which means that I was born with the aspect in my chart. (It’s actually one of the tightest aspects in my chart after my exact Mercury-Neptune conjunction.) I can personally attest to its energies and how sometimes it can make things ten times hard. But I also intimately know this energy and how to work with it … at least I should at this point in my life.
What does Saturn what in astrology? It wants commitment, discipline, balance, accountability, and equity. It wants mastery. So, whatever we’re trying to push forward we need to make sure it meets Saturn’s requirements. It’s like having to go through a gatekeeper. And Saturn is pushing back on us today.
If you are feeling friction or even a hard “no”, reexamine where you’re coming from. Do your actions meet Saturn’s requirements? Where can you then bring in more commitment, discipline, balance, accountability, and equity? What can we work to master? (Read more about Saturn in In Defense of Saturn.)
On top of all this, we’re probably feeling this on an emotional level with today’s Scorpio Moon. Conversations may be emotional or intense or even deeply revealing. Secrets may be revealed.
