The Sun opposes Neptune and we’re caught in an emotional riptide. We may feel unmoored or underwater. While it’s good to use the Virgo Sun to practically handle these feelings, today is a reminder to find the balance between heaven and earth.
Neptune can be a difficult planet to understand because it deals with the real of the subtle, the world beyond this world. It pulls at the edges of our reality, it dissolves, it puts us into a haze. It shows us that boundaries between visible and invisible aren’t so hard. It’s mysticism and spirituality. Neptune connects us to the universality of humanity and creation, to the fundamental truth that we are all one.
Like every planet and every sign, Neptune has a high side and a low side. And by high I mean unconditional love, open hearted compassion, prayer, the ability to forgive and redeem. Neptune, in its highest expression, can take us into the realm of saints.
But what about the low side of Neptune? Us mere mortals often meet Neptune through substance and escapism. Caught in the ethers, we can feel overwhelmed by its sensitivities. Or we try to save people for all the wrong reasons.
I had some realizations about Neptune recently. (It’s a big player in my natal chart, so I live Neptune everyday.) If you’ve ever been caught by a wave or a current in the ocean, pulled underwater, that’s what the planet’s energies are like. Neptune pulls us into our emotional depths, the place of our own shadows, so that we can reach out a hand towards the light. This is how we get to high Neptune. We ask for a hand, a line, a lift to take us up. We surrender. We find compassion and forgiveness for ourselves.
Maybe this is an esoteric point, but I’ve noticed that Neptune energy can be really heavy. We felt this back in June, a month that was steeped in these planetary energiges. Here we are a few months later and we’re meeting up with Neptune again. In fact, the September 9 Virgo New Moon will oppose Neptune, so spiritual longing, redemption, healing, and compassion will be a theme in the coming lunar month.
It’s a day to mediate or contemplate, to search for spiritual or existential answers, to heal and to reach up towards something higher. We may feed the need to retreat, rest, or even sleep. Since it’s Virgo Season, an earth sign, we can’t forget the ground beneath our feet even as we feel the current pulling us away. Try to find your anchor in all of this.
