Happy New Moon in Taurus! This is the time of the year to plant seeds that support sensuality, touch, safety, solid ground, the body, values, and material wealth. The new moon is exact at 8:27 pm EDT and 19 degrees of Taurus. But as the South Node is only a couple degrees away, we have a powerful eclipse on our hands. It’s as if all of Taurus’s worldly bounty suddenly has the faint odor of decay, the Scorpio North Node hinting at a process of elimination that should have happened long ago. However, as Taurus is wont to do, changes were put off and so here we are, in the vortex of the inevitable. Solar eclipses are non-negotiables; while one chapter may be ending, another begins.
Eclipses, admittedly, have a bit of a reputation, and have been known to be a portent of anxiety producing change. As I’ve said previously, Taurus is the least malleable of all the signs and prefers things just as they are, thank you very much. But as we learned with the Scorpio Full Moon two weeks ago, Taurus has to be balanced out — we can’t hold onto something forever. All things, eventually, must go through a process of elimination and transformation.
The South Node speaks to where we’ve gotten too comfortable, where things have become easy to the point of excess. And when the South Node entered Taurus in August 2012, we began this process of reevaluating our relationship with the physical world and even our body. Where have we gotten lazy? What have we been accumulating to our detriment? How have we been taking care of our body? Don’t like change? Too bad. Here comes the South Node.
I liken this process to a long goodbye. We’ve had nine months to ruminate and to chew on the big changes that need to happen despite our stubbornness. While we’ve had eclipses in Scorpio, this is the first solar eclipse of this cycle in Taurus. It’s as if we have been building up to this moment, the South Node conveniently lined up with the Sun and Moon. The gods are opening a window. What will you do with it?
When I asked my guides what this eclipse can be used for I heard, “Break patterns.” That seems so perfect when you look at the chart for the eclipse. Taurus is very fixed. It represents the form and foundation for what we build upon through the earth signs. If we’ve needed to break some pretty ingrained patterns, to get out of some very deep ruts, why not use the South Node and the shiny beginnings of the solar eclipse to set some new patterns? Like I said, we’ve had nine months of growing awareness of the new grooves that need carving out. Want to quit an old habit? Want to clear old fears about loss of material wealth and stability? Want to start taking better care of the body? Now is the time. Pluto in Capricorn is forming a very supportive and powerful trine. We can move mountains if we need to.
Speaking of Pluto, we’re a little over a week away from the third of seven Uranus/Pluto squares — the defining astrological aspect of a generation. Again, we’ve got a lot of wind in our sails to make some big changes — revolutionary changes. Also note that Venus just entered Gemini and is at the degree (almost to the minute!) of the May 20, 2012 solar eclipse. Something seeded at that time is coming back around. Venus is giving it attraction and social action. This eclipse also is a repeat of the May 10, 1994 solar eclipse. Think back to that time if you were old enough. It’s another chord in a larger cosmic orchestration.
Lastly, it is worth mentioning that Taurus rules the throat in astrology. This solar eclipse almost begs for some throat chakra clearing. So sing, hum, om, and speak with this eclipse. Clear your throat. Allow yourself to be heard. And as you break old patterns, create new ones with your voice.
