Happy New Moon in Sagittarius, the sign that aligns us with the galactic center — the ribbon of stars we call the Milky Way! This is the time of the year when we sow our intentions for new beginnings that support exploration, philosophy, spirituality, higher education, publishing, and travel to distant lands. This new moon is exact on 12/2/2013 at 7:22 pm EST, 11 degrees Sagittarius.

Sagittarius is the philosopher of the zodiac, the born explorer, the pontificator. (I should know — I have Sagittarius rising plus three planets there!) And Sagittarius has an opinion on everything, owing to its years of study built upon Gemini’s intellectual curiosity. There’s wisdom in Sagittarius, but if we’re not careful there is also judgement.

Judgement is an interesting energy because it has a very rigid feel to it. Judgement is literally the force that shapes our reality in this dimension. While Sagittarius is a fire sign, it deals with earthly matters — religion, the courts, and law. It’s ruled by Jupiter after all, king of all gods and known for sending a few lightening bolts in the direction of those who fell out of favor. But Sagittarius is not the only Jupiter ruled sign in the zodiac. It shares that distinction with Pisces.

There’s an interesting dialogue happening in the chart of the new moon between two Jupiter ruled signs. On one hand, we’re starting a new chapter in all things Sagittarius, which includes turning a new leaf in judgements of ourselves, of others, of spirituality, and where we place ourselves in the universe. On the other, Neptune and Chiron in Pisces make a square (aka a challenging 90 degree angle) to the new moon. There’s a huge amount of tension between our beliefs and this Piscean urge to forgive and let go. The lower expression of the square is the energy of the martyr — the person who cannot move forward because he or she believes that they cannot, flung helpless upon the ground.

This new moon invites us to step out of our judgements and see how they are impeding us from moving forward. Forgiveness not only dissolves judgement, but the energetic bonds tying us to people and situations that we keep cycling through. Pisces is how we move off the mutable cross and Neptune in Pisces is making it so easy to forgive and surrender right now. And here’s Chiron, the planet that represents our karmic filter, also inviting us to unlock the key to core level woundings.

Chiron often operates on an unconscious level. So pay close attention to your thoughts and words over the next two weeks. How are your unconscious judgements keeping you from healing, from what you want, and from moving forward? How are those quiet statements of limitation holding you back. You know, “It’s too hard” or “I’ll never . . . .” or “No one ever . . . .” How can you be in the universality of Pisces instead of the illusion of separation and judgement in Sagittarius? And with Jupiter in Cancer applying to the Uranus/Pluto square, much of this process of transformation and surrender is happening on a profoundly deep emotional level (Cancer). As an aside, my two oracle cards today were the Wisdom and Kuan Yin — how perfect.

So when you catch yourself cycling in an old emotional pattern, Chiron is giving you the key to unlock the bond. But you have to make the choice to move forward. Spirit cannot do it for you, only provide partnership in this process. Use the new moon to open the door.
