Happy New Moon in Gemini! This is the time of the year when we create new intentions that support curiosity, communication, thinking, writing, and movement. We’re starting a new lunar cycle in Gemini after las November’s full moon. This new moon occurs at 11:56 am EDT, 18 degrees.

Gemini is famous for duality. It is the sign of the twins after all. And in keeping with Gemini’s dual nature, we see two very different expressions in the astrology chart above. First is the tight t-square between Mercury (the dispositor of the Sun/Moon in Gemini), Pluto, and Uranus. That is to say that Mercury is triggering the Uranus/Pluto square, an ongoing aspect that is leaving its mark on this era as one of great social change and unrest. So the seeds that are planeted with this new moon are infused with revolutionary change of Uranus Pluto.

Mercury is the voice; it is the mind. Mercury in Cancer wants to talk about its feelings; it seeks emotional security through conversation. There is a feeling of vulnerability here as Uranus and Pluto threaten exposure. With Pluto as the apex of the t-square, the solution is a powerful transformation of structure. I’m thinking that with the Grand Water Trine and the influx of energy coming in through it (more on that shortly), a path needs to be cleared in order for it to do its work. Pluto is tearing down the old calcified structures that have prevented you from talking about your feelings or sharing your vulnerability via your voice. Note that the missing leg of the t-square is 10/11 degrees Libra. If you have planets or important points there, there’s a lot of evolutionary pressure on you with this new moon.

Despite the acute tension behind aspects to the Uranus/Pluto square, we’re getting some amazing support via this burgeoning Grand Water Trine; it’s providing some much needed release. While Mercury’s involvement in the trine is a little wide for me, it’s conjunction to Venus ropes it into conversation nevertheless. And really the whole message behind the Grand Water Trine is heart. How open is your heart? As Neptune dissolves the boundaries of Saturn in Scorpio, coaxing out the deeper material, Venus and Mercury in Cancer bring an intimate connection to all this watery energy. This is an opportunity, make no mistake — an opportunity for some profound emotional new beginnings.

Neptune stationed yesterday, saturating the collective with as much confusion as unconditional love. Make a decision about which level of Neptune you’re going to work with. As the boundaries between the physical and the spiritual realms are very thin right now, use this energy to transcend old emotional patterns, to reconnect with something deeper. Most of all, use Neptune to connect to this vibration of compassion, which is Neptune in its most highest, exalted state.

And, finally, I’m posting this new moon update a little later than I’d like to because I had a couple of client sessions scheduled. But if the themes of these consultations were a barometer or a messenger of this lunar energy, it’s this: what are the barriers to your happiness? Is it your family of origin? Trauma from childhood? Is it the grief you feel over unimaginable loss? It is your story and everything that has happened to you up until this point? As Gemini rules all forms of communication, use this new moon to write a new story.
