Happy Aquarius New Moon! This is not only the beginning of a lunar month, but the time of the year when we turn our attention toward community, friendships, intellect, humanitarian causes, democracy, freedom, equality, and technology. The new moon will be exact January 20, 2015 at 8:14 am EST, 0 degrees Aquarius. (For those further afield, that’s 5:14 am Los Angeles, 1:14 pm London, and 12:14 pm Sydney on 1/21.)
Aquarius is a very future forward sign. It has a perspective that other signs do not. And so as we jumpstart the new year, we do so with a clarity that we have not had previously. I can’t help but see the image of a sun cresting on the horizon when I tap into the energy of the new moon, the light falling on areas that we’ve previously overlooked. Saturn, recently in Sagittarius, has already pointed our lives in a new direction as of December 23. The new moon will give us vision and a solid foundation to put Saturn in Sagittarius into action.
There’s also an avant-garde quality to Aquarius. It’s a sign that has an ability to bend the rules or completely toss them aside in favor of something new. Aquarius is the revolutionary and the egalitarian as well. So, if the new moon is helping you to turn over a new leaf, where are you bringing freedom and liberty to your life? How about fairness? Equality? Where are you taking a risk? Marching to the beat of your own drummer?
Aquarius wants you to get weird. And with its deep ethic of kinship and community, this is a time to find your people, especially if you spent 2014 feeling alienated or isolated. Join a group of like minded souls or even start one of your own. With Jupiter all the way out in Leo, there’s a sense that for all of Aquarius’s homogeneity, we still need to celebrate our individuality and creative flair.
Keep in mind that Mercury is stationing and will turn retrograde a day after the new moon. If you start something, it may be slow to start or take some reworking to get it right. Don’t be discouraged. Keep gently pushing forward, especially after Mercury turns direct on February 11. Saturn is in full support of this new moon, which means that what we begin will have staying power. But we will need to keep an eye out for Mars and Neptune, a duo that will remind us that for all our ambition and will, we need to make sure what we do is heart aligned and in service of something greater than us.
