Happy Leo New Moon! This is the time of the year when we begin a lunar month in support of creativity, performance, self expression, identity, romance, and fun. Leo is a sign, after all, that loves a good party, reminding us to be joyful, childlike and playful. The new moon will be exact on August 14, 2015 at 10:54 am EDT, 21 degrees Leo. For those further afield that’s 7:54 am in LA, 3:54 pm in London, 12:54 am in Sydney on 8/15.

Leo is the sign of the self. In its purest distillation, Leo totally evokes the Sun card in the tarot — exuberant and expressive. Think of young children at play; they are without reservation or self consciousness. With that spirit ever present, the new moon will be a gentle reminder to connect to our inner child and to break through anything stopping us from sharing who we are with the world.

Additionally, new moons set the tone for the next four weeks and, depending on the planets involved, we can get an idea of what we’ll be working on both individually and collectively. So, what do we see in the chart?

The new moon will make a sweet conjunction to Venus, highlighting romance, pleasure, cooperation, money, and talent. But Venus is retrograde and there may be a sense of having to wrap up something from the past or iron out old karma around value and identity. Further, the new moon will make a square (90 degrees; stressful) to Saturn in Scorpio — a sign that runs quite deep. As much as we want to trust what’s on the surface, Saturn will force us to see beyond the hype.

Alternatively, we may be reaching a milestone in a relationship or with a romance. Is it time to make a commitment? Or is it time to let go? In many ways this new moon will be a referendum on nearly three years of Saturn in Scorpio, especially as Saturn gets ready to say goodbye to the sign of intimacy, trust, power, and bracing truths.

We also can’t forget the new moon’s trine (120 degrees; harmonious) to Uranus, the planet of consciousness, breakthroughs, and ingenious ideas. There will definitely be an unpredictable element to the next four weeks. Uranus like’s to zap us out of our comfort zones, but at the same time the aspect is a supportive trine. Are we being our authentic self? What are our true talents? What bold steps can we take? Make sure you use this Uranian energy to push through old blocks around value, intimacy, trust, and relationships!
