Happy Leo New Moon! Happy solar eclipse! We start a powerful lunar month focused on all things Leo — passion, creativity, talent, and the joy of being ourselves. Ruled by the Sun, Leo encourages us to shine. That said, the new moon is exact on August 11, 2018 at 5:58 am EDT, 18 degrees Leo. That’s 2:58 am Los Angeles, 10:58 am London, and 7:58 pm in Sydney.
Here we are at the final of three eclipses, the end of a season that began on July 12 with a solar eclipse in Cancer. Eclipses have the power to change the course of our lives … or at least nudge us in the direction we’re supposed to go. Like a book, eclipses show us the points in the story where the plot gets juicy. New characters come in, some dramatically leave. We strike out in a new direction. Or something happens that sends us into the unexpected.
It’s possible that, as we pass through this final eclipse, that something has fundamentally changed in the past couple of months. It’s important to add that these shifts can be equally internal as external. That said, this eclipse feels like a coda, a moment where we take the rubble from the last two eclipses and use it to seed something new. Leo, after all, is the sign of the Creator and this is a wonderful time to remember that you too are a creator. So, what are you going to create with this eclipse?
This eclipse is also a reminder that we’re coming to the end of the North Node’s time in Leo, which is to say that we’re coming to the end of a chapter that pushed us to find the courage to be ourselves, even if it meant being different. And at the risk of sounding sentimental, there is something beautiful within us that distinguishes us from every person on this planet. Use this eclipse to reveal that light, that essence.
There’s many reasons why it’s hard to be ourselves, anything from fear, shame, trauma. With the eclipse making a square to Jupiter in Scorpio, it’s important to face our shadows over the coming weeks, anything that obscures this light or keeps it hidden. That means facing our fears, our shame, our trauma, our addictions. Jupiter’s time in Scorpio has been a great purge and something may release or reveal over the coming weeks. The more you dig into yourself, the more you let go of the past, the more you step more fully into who you really are. Do your soul alchemy work. Turn lead into gold, personal darkness into light.
Lastly Mars and Mercury are retrograde at the time of the eclipse. While Leo is a fire sign and fire energy likes to move, it may take until later in August to really see things move. Then again, sometimes eclipses don’t care and play by their own rules.
In the meantime, don’t forget to really spend time thinking about what you want to create in your life. Use this eclipse mojo to identify your blocks. And have the will and the courage to move past them with joy and passion.
