Happy Cancer Full Moon! This is the time of year when we turn our attention to all things Cancer — home, family, roots, nostalgia, memories, ancestors, emotional connections, sustenance, and care. Since full moons are decision points, we may be confronted by something that will demand our attention over the next few days — where to live, who to connect to, and what to feed ourselves with. The full moon will arrive on January 4, 2015 at 11:53 pm EST, 14 degrees Cancer/Capricorn. (For those further afield, that’s 8:53 pm LA, 4:53 am London 1/5, 3:35 pm Sydney 1/5.)

This is an intense full moon. Make no mistake. It falls right on the Uranus/Pluto square, a stressful formation of planets that has dominated the astrology of last few years and will continue to do so into 2015. Together they make for a titanic duo of evolution and change. You are not the same person you were before this wave moved through your life and the full moon will bring another step on this journey.

Between the full moon, Uranus, and Pluto, there is a sense that something has run its course. It’s time to move on. The full moon is even square the lunar nodes. It’s karmically imperative that we make a change because there’s a deep sense we can’t keep walking the path we’ve been on.

But what of Cancer? How does the sign reveal the sort of decisions we will be making?

The sign of Cancer is about heart. Not the literal heart, which is ruled by Leo, or even pride, another Leo concept, but that deep, sensitive, abstract sense of heart. When we lack connection in our lives we feel empty, adrift. After all, humans are innately social creatures and we need family. We need to feel like we belong to something. We need that heart connection.

The full moon will be the realization of what nurtures our heart us versus what does not. With Uranus squaring (90 degrees) the Moon, we have to be true to ourselves, even if it means leaving a relationship or a job or something that has ceased to fill our hearts. Uranus is the planet of liberation as well as awakenings. It is also the planet of separation. Time to go.

The days around the full moon will be a turning point, especially for those who have planets close to 14–15 degrees of the cardinal signs. It seems ironic to talk of connection (Cancer) in the face of two planets that initiate change (Uranus and Pluto). I think the full moon is a remind that it’s time to connect to something else because what we’re currently connect to no longer sustains us.

On the flip side, lest you all think that this full moon is a huge bummer, the coming days will be a powerful time of alchemy. What do you want to create with its energy? What are you awakening to? What are you shaking up? Uranus and Pluto can inspire powerful breakthroughs if you’re ready to use their energy with conscious intention.

It’s also worth mentioning that the full moon is the same degree as the upcoming lunar eclipse at 14 Libra on April 4, 2015 — another turning point. Whatever you decide will likely tie into something bigger that will unfold under that eclipse.

Till then, sow the seeds for positive transformation. Connect to your heart. Rediscover your authenticity.
