Virgo New Moon

Virgo New Moon: New Story

Welcome to the Virgo New Moon, the time in the zodiac calendar when the focus turns towards practical matters. Virgo is an earth sign, the sign of the harvest, of purity, health, and wellness. It teaches us to put things in order, to organize and analyze. The Virgo New Moon will be exact on August 23, 2025 at 2:07 am ET, 0 degrees Virgo. That’s 11:07 pm Los Angeles on August 22, 7:07am London on August 23, 8:07 am Johannesburg, 11:37 am New Delhi, 4:07 pm Sydney, and 6:07 pm in Auckland.

New moons are new beginnings. They turn the page and shift our attention to a new area of our lives. Our priorities may shift in kind. We plant the seeds that will grow over the next four weeks.

Some new moons have the potential to create a more noticeable shift, like turning the page to a very different chapter. And so this new moon marks an important turning point for the year. It is a new moon that opens a lunar month that will be punctuated by a lunar eclipse. It also brings the energies of Uranus in Gemini into the forefront for the first time in 80 years.

In order to understand this Virgo New Moon, we first have to look at Uranus in Gemini.

Each planet has their own rhythm and pace. The Moon takes 28-29 days to cross the zodiac. Uranus, on the other hand, takes 84 years, spending seven years in each of the zodiac signs. Each planet also has its own energy and archetype. Uranus is the great awakening, an evolutionary force of transformation. It shakes up the status quo so that we can grow and evolve. (Read Uranus in Gemini: Radical Ideas.)

When Uranus went into Gemini just this past July 7, it entered a sign that it hadn’t been in since the 1940s. And over the past seven weeks, we’ve had our first experiences with its energies and archetypes. Overall, however, Uranus in Gemini has played out in the background. The new story is there, but we haven’t quite connected the dots.

The Virgo New Moon at 0 degrees brings the energy of Uranus in Gemini to the forefront, making a tight square angle (90 degrees away) to Uranus at 1 Gemini. A technical point, but an important point. It means, simply, that the next four weeks will put a new story into view. It will be a time that will draw strongly upon Uranus’s demand for authenticity, reinvention, and freedom. We will no longer be able to maintain the status quo. Something has to give.

A key area of our lives will begin to shift. Whatever Gemini governs in our astrology will start its long arc of transformation. Depending on our Sun and rising sign, this may be our career or where we live or our relationships, for example. (Read Uranus in Gemini: Sign by Sign for more information.)

That said, this is still a Virgo New Moon, one that asks that we take a critical look at our lives, analyze what is working and what is not working, and make changes so that things are in balance. For some, this new moon turns attention to matters of health and wellness. For others, it’s a new moon to begin a project or to come back to an existing project with a different eye or to even be of service to others.

This is actually not the only Virgo New Moon we will have this year. There will be a Virgo New Moon solar eclipse on September 21 at 29 degrees, which means that Virgo themes and archetypes will be a major focus over the coming weeks and months, all the way to the solar eclipse of February 17, 2026.

One of the reasons I love Virgo is that it’s such a real world sign. It’s very practical and, thus, it’s a time for us to get practical and find our grounding. With the South Node of the Moon in Virgo, we may have something from the past that needs our attention. The South Node always pulls at karmic stories and the unresolved. And with Mercury still in Leo opposite Pluto in Aquarius, the coming days and weeks continue a theme to clear space that will be later inhabited by new beginnings.
