Welcome to Scorpio Season. The Sun makes its descent into the 8th sign of the zodiac, a water sign that equally trades in magic and life’s unavoidable transitions. It’s a season to look within, to seek out vulnerability, to face ourselves as well as our psyche.
The zodiac is the wheel of life, a great archetype that acts like a map for us to understand every step of life, from beginning to end, from the individual to the collective and beyond. Scorpio is the 8th sign, a number that invokes the duality of creation — light and dark and its eternal dance. Scorpio reminds us that we are both light and dark.
Scorpio is the only sign of the zodiac that has three animal symbols — the scorpion, which represents the shadow side of Scorpio; the eagle, which represents the enlightened side of Scorpio. In order for us to raise our energy to the level of the eagle, we must first become the phoenix, Scorpio’s third symbol, and step into the fire.
Speaking of fire, this Scorpio Season, Mars, the ruler of Scorpio, is in Leo, a fire sign — which is to say that Leo is on the receiving end of Scorpio’s energies. There is synergy between the two signs this season, a mutual reception as the Sun, Leo’s ruler, is in Scorpio, and Mars in Leo.
Scorpio plus Leo is an intensely creative combination. So we will have an opportunity to get in touch with our creative force over the next four weeks. And with Mars alongside Jupiter and the August 12 solar eclipse degree, Scorpio Season may bring us to a major crossroads. Events may thread back to July-August.
This weekend we have two notable planetary changes. Mercury turns retrograde on Saturday, October 24 at 20 degrees Scorpio (notably square the August 12 solar eclipse degree). We will need to retrace our steps over the next few weeks and reevaluate the choices we have been making. Conversations may also prove intense, emotional, and revelatory.
Venus also returns to Libra on Sunday, October 24, its home sign and a sign it was last in from August 6 to September 10. We may have to review events from then in advance of Venus turning direct on November 13 at 22 Libra.
When planets change signs in short order, the story switches up. In the case of a retrograde, it may be a story that we are already familiar with.
