We start the week off with Venus in Leo, a new arrival that invites us to make time for romance as well as the romance of life. If Venus is what we love and what we value, then it’s time to invest in what makes us happy and gives us life.
I don’t think Leo is always a sign that we “get” because there’s a dominant cultural narrative around Leo. Bold and brash, yes, but Leo is a sign as well as an archetype. Ruled by the Sun, Leo is the archetype that puts us in connection with the energy of creation … the Sun. It’s light and the many colors of the rainbow diffused by that light, which is why it’s a sign that gives us permission to be ourselves.

Venus, a planet, takes on that light now that it’s in Leo. Of course, Venus is a planet that describes how we relate to one another, compromise, and find our social graces. Leo also gives Venus a lot of personality. It also brings a fire of renewal to the planet, a much needed spark if our confidence has been flagging and our passion dimmed.
That said, Venus will be in Leo for quite a long time — four months in fact versus its usual four weeks. That’s because Venus will turn retrograde on July 22 at 28 degrees of Leo and work its way back in the sky until September 3, turning direct at 12 Leo. During this time we will have to reevaluate, take a second look at our relationship with joy and passion, invest our money differently, and perhaps even return to old relationships to find new perspective or closure. Venus won’t leave Leo until October 8.
In other news, the Moon’s in hard-working Capricorn today, but one that pulls at our emotions in addition to our duties and responsibilities. We have to face our fears that are limiting our ambitions.
Pluto’s also returning back to Capricorn later this week, a revisit of a story that’s been with us since 2008.
