If the recent Cancer New Moon pulled us back to themes around home and family, memory and roots, today’s opposition between the Sun and Pluto is a demand to reform, transform, and leave the past behind.

We’ve been doing a lot of work on a particular area of our lives ever since Pluto arrived in Capricorn in January 2008. (Yes, 15 years ago.) Pluto, especially in Capricorn, has been not unlike demolition work, a swath of transformation that has rendered something nearly unrecognizable. Perhaps we are a Capricorn and nothing looks as it did back in 2008. (Read Pluto in Capricorn: Sign by Sign for more information about where Pluto is for your sign.)

If you recall, Pluto made a three month visit, a preview of sorts, to Aquarius from March to June of this year. This is our first hint that we’re on the cusp of a new era, one that will take us into the next 20 years. (Read Pluto in Aquarius: Sign by Sign.)

But, we still have loose ends to wrap up before Pluto leaves Capricorn for good in November 2024. And today’s opposition between Pluto and the Sun in Cancer is a chance to do just that. What’s one of the last shifts or last transformational pushes that you want to make while Pluto is here?

For some, this is a high energy day, one where we feel confronted by something from the past or an emotion that has emerged from a blindspot. We may see something come up in a relationship or connection, but one where the other person is mirroring something we can’t see about ourselves or something that is in our unconscious. Sometimes it’s a positive trait that someone is mirroring back to us so that we can accept that we are capable of that, too.

That said, this weekend is the start of Leo Season, a season for us to rediscover our individuality and to have the courage to shine like the sun. Venus and Chiron also turn retrograde, in Leo and Aries respectively.

Venus Retrograde is a 40-day journey inward, one where we have to reevaluate and look something from the past, especially a past relationship or connection. Where have we compromised being ourselves? Where do we need to rekindle the spark of romance, even if that spark is within ourselves? Venus turns retrograde at 28 Leo.

Chiron Retrograde, on the other hand, runs more in the background, pulling at deeper emotional or psychic themes around courage and bravery — the courage and bravery to be ourselves, to take the lead, to go after what we want — and the complicated emotions that come up when we struggle to make that happen. Chiron turns retrograde at 19 Aries and will turn direct on December 26, 2023.

Finally, Mercury and Uranus square off this weekend, an aspect that has been known to surprise or give us unexpected news. Be bold and creative. See things from a new perspective as we go into a new season.

If you are in AUSTRALIA or NZ, this forecast applies approximately for July 22-24, 2023.
