As Venus prepares to turn direct this weekend in Capricorn, Mercury, also retrograde in Capricorn, meets up with Pluto. A lot of our work lately has been a deep reformation of what we value and how we communicate.
Mercury and Venus are what are called personal planets. They reveal how we listen and learn, communicate and speak as well as how we connect with others through relationship and partnership. They are the planets that talk energies that are personal to the self.
It’s curious that when Venus turned retrograde on December 19 at 26 Capricorn, it did so in a conjunction to Pluto. Whereas Mercury, coming up on its direct station, pivots at 24 Capricorn, also in a conjunction to Pluto. Two different planets at two different times meeting at roughly at the same point in the sky alongside Pluto.
What’s Pluto? Quite unlike the personal planets, Pluto is an evolutionary planet, one that gets us to both personally and collectively evolve by any means possible. It shows what we don’t want to see. It digs into undercurrents of power and control, trust and safety. It tears things down in order to make space for the new. It takes us into the shadows and back.
So, over the past few weeks, we’ve been working on deep themes around intimacy and power, all to make space for something new.
Speaking of new, the Sun rounds out its cycle with Uranus Taurus, making a square on January 30. If the opening square on August 6, 2021 put us in a crisis of authenticity, a crisis of the new, this weekend brings something to a close. It’s a powerful square nonetheless, one that continues a story of awakening, breakdown, and breakthrough that’s been with us since 2018-2019.
Note that Venus turns direct on January 29 at 11 Capricorn.
