Mars arrives in Capricorn after six weeks in Sagittarius, powering and motivating us to get serious, focused, and organized. We’re in building mode. And with Saturn in Aquarius, we’re building for the future.

In traditional terms, Mars is what is called “exalted” in Capricorn, which is to say that Mars does its best work in Capricorn. Mars can be a bit self directed in general and Capricorn gives it an easy lens to express this energy. (Read Mars in Capricorn: Sign by Sign.)

Do keep in mind that Mars gives fuel to some prickly energy in the sky, activating both Uranus in Taurus and Saturn in Aquarius. As much as we’re motivated to take command right now, the things we’re working and building towards have to be in pursuit of something very new.

Let’s also recap a couple of big changes last week. First the Lunar Nodes changed signs on January 18, arriving in Taurus-Scorpio for an 18-month stay. This means that not only will the eclipses change, arriving in Taurus-Scorpio in April and May, but that our collective direction has also changed. With the South Node of the Moon now in Scorpio, we’re examining our shadow self into 2023.

Second, Uranus is now direct as of January 18, something that may have shook things up over the past few days. And since the Sun is now in Aquarius, things are likely to shake up more in advance of the February 1 Aquarius New Moon. This is a week to do things differently, to upend the status quo, to let something happen that’s been wanting to happen for a while.
