The Astrology of February 20, 2026

Saturn, the planet of structure and the material world, meets up with Neptune, the planet that dissolves the boundaries between the material and the spiritual. This alignment will be one of the defining astrological passages this year, reshaping our lives.

In astrology, aspects are the relationship between two or more planets. These planets could be at opposite ends of the sky, or 180 degrees from each other, or right next to each other. Astrology calls this a conjunction.

To be fair, conjunctions happen all the time. (The new moon, for example, is a conjunction between the Sun and the Moon.) But Saturn conjunct Neptune? This only happens every 36 years. And it is happening today at 0 degrees of Aries.

Conjunctions are a new beginning, they close out an old cycle and initiate a new one. In this case, we are closing out a cycle that began in 1989. (The last conjunction was on November 13, 1989, just days after the fall of the Berlin Wall. The conjunction was at 10 Capricorn, the sign of structures and boundaries.)

While some of you may have not been born yet, it’s important to understand what Saturn and Neptune are activating. They will be planting a seed in our lives that will take time to grow — Saturn and Neptune measure time in decades. Nevertheless, we will likely begin to see their energies take root this year.

Saturn is the planet that governs over our physical and material world. It’s structures, evoking the power that fuels society as well as the organizations that govern society. It’s the planet of time and aging, cause and effect, maturity and responsibility.

As of last week, on February 13, Saturn is now in Aries where it will take its energy and express it through the lens of Aries — action, initiation, new beginnings, drive, forward movement, power. Traditionally speaking, Saturn is not at home in Aries, the sign of its detriment. This means that we have to be mindful of Saturn’s less than helpful tendency in Aries to “go it alone” and be overly individualistic. Yet, sometimes going it alone is precisely what we need to do, depending on the circumstances of our lives. (Read Saturn in Aries: Self Reliance)

Neptune, on the other hand, is an evolutionary force. It says to Saturn that how we take action, how we use power, must evolve. What’s tricky is that Neptune can also be illusions, seduction, and dreams. Are we sure we are seeing things clearly in 2026? Neptune can distort, taking the materialism of Saturn and the individualism of Aries and twisting it. But Neptune can also impart great compassion, a desire to take new or renewed action in a way that accounts for our connection to others. (Read Neptune in Aries: A New Dawn)

As much as Neptune can take us to spiritual highs, we are still human beings and we still have blind spots. We will have to do a great work on ourselves to be able to reach those highs. If we can rise past the lower instincts of Aries as an archetype — selfishness, individualism, power over others — then perhaps the seeds we plant this year will lead to something beautiful.

Nevertheless, today a seed will be planted 0 Aries, the first degree of the zodiac. And the recent Aquarius solar eclipse, just three days ago, was a powerful focal point, giving this seed the power to inspire major changes and new beginnings in 2026.
