The Moon divides its time between Gemini and Cancer today, moving the day through two very different energies. Gemini has us in the hustle and bustle of life. Cancer has us slowing down to focus on home and matters with family or the household.

The arrival of the Moon in Cancer also means that we’re coming up to the first-quarter moon after a solar eclipse, a natural checkpoint that may reveal what this new cycle is all about. With Mars also in Cancer, and Mars as the ruling planet of the March 29 eclipse, home and family and similar themes will be a major focus over the next few months.

Cancer, like Aries, is a cardinal sign. It aligns with the four directions and the four seasons. (Aries is spring, Cancer is summer.) The four cardinal signs aren’t just about the seasons, they act as the four pillars. They hold up the sky and, thus, our lives.

Home is often a simple word with complicated feelings — understandably so. Cancer, in its basic function as an archetype, is to help us to feel connected, to feel as though we have a place to call home, that we belong. It’s kinship and its emotional and psychic ties to the past. Again, sometimes this is complicated.

That said, Cancer is a major focus over the next six months. Where is home? Who is home? What are our ties? What connects us? How do we turn over a new leaf in this domain? Themes to meditate on.
