Mercury in Capricorn makes a trine to Uranus in Taurus, a flash of insight and new perspective for the planet of communication, education, and choice. Be open to inventive solutions to old problems. Make choices that break free from the past.

As we saw yesterday, Chiron isn’t the only planet that Mercury’s making a series of aspects while its making an extended visit to Capricorn. This is the first supportive trine to Uranus that will be revisited on January 8 and January 29.

It’s important to understand the difference between trines and squares. Trines are the energy of light (trinity; spirit). They bring aid and can open doors. But trines can easily pass us by, as if we’re looking down and miss what’s happening out of view.

Squares, on the other hand, are the energy of matter (the cross; manifestation). We need them to bring aid or opportunity into reality. Squares are easier to see because they work on our physical plane.

So if we look at yesterday’s square between Mercury and Chiron, it’s easier to feel the pain point of Chiron. But what we really need to open our eyes to is the opportunity to do and see things differently, to get that flash (and sometimes thunderbolt) of awareness from Uranus that is a solution to an old pain.

Something to consider as we go into January.
