Welcome to the Pisces Full Moon, the time in the lunar calendar when the spotlight is on our search for meaning in our lives and a deeper emotional connection. Pisces, the last sign of the zodiac, brings us to the world beyond this world and spirituality. The full moon is exact on August 30, 2023 at 9:35 pm EDT, 7 degrees Pisces-Virgo. That’s 6:35 pm Los Angeles, 2:35 am London on August 31, 3:35 am Johannesburg, 11:35 am Sydney, and 1:35 pm Auckland.
Full moons are decision points, a time to take action, or to react to events around us. It’s often that something demands our attention. Full moons are also the result or the revelation of events that were seeded around the new moon, and in this case, the Leo New Moon of August 16, 2023.
Pisces full moons typically hit on an emotional chord. After all, Pisces is a water sign, the element of emotions, bonds, subtlety, and dreams. It’s also an element that transitions us from one phase of life to another. With Pisces, it’s not my emotions, it’s a shared emotional experience, something that unites us as human beings.
Pisces is also a sign that is searching for meaning. Ruled by Jupiter and sister sign to Sagittarius, Pisces finds answers inwardly as opposed to Sagittarius’s external search for truth and meaning. With Pisces, the answers are beyond this world, captured through intuition and visions.
This full moon comes two weeks after a powerhouse Leo New Moon, one that shook up the status quo and pushed us to make changes. With the full moon activating the level-headed energies of Saturn in Pisces, how do we make new structures and organization to fit the changes that were set in motion 2-3 weeks ago. Pisces says that whatever new structures that are put in place have to be in alignment with our hearts and our souls.
That said, Saturn can be a sobering influence, even in ethereal Pisces. And a full moon conjunct Saturn is a call to take things seriously, set a boundary, and to make a commitment. Sometimes Saturn gives us a hard “no”. But sometimes, as a result of hard work and integrity, we get a “yes” in the form of a promotion or recognition. With all that in mind, this is a full moon to make a spiritual commitment, to let something go that is not in our highest good or takes us away from our spiritual integrity, to organize our lives so that there is a healthy balance between our material needs and our emotional and spiritual needs. It’s also a full moon to get clearer about what we believe in and stand for, to find answers in the quiet spaces deep within.
That said, there may be a few plot twists with this full moon. Jupiter, the ruler of the full moon, is in Taurus and not that far away from Uranus, again a planet of awakenings and transformations. Mercury is also retrograde, which hints that the story around this full moon may be playing out into next month and we may need to wait until after September 15 for resolution or something more concrete.
