Welcome to the Libra Full Moon. This is the time in the lunar calendar when the spotlight is on beauty, grace, and charm. As the sign of relationships, Libra teaches us the importance of connection. The full moon is exact on April 16, 2022 at 2:55 pm, 26 degrees Libra. That’s 11:55 am Los Angeles, 7:55 pm London, 8:55 pm Johannesburg, 4:55 am Sydney on April 17, and 6:55 am Auckland.
Full moons put matters into the spotlight. They demand attention, action, and decision. Sometimes full moons can be confrontational. We’ve reached a high point after the new beginnings of the Aries New Moon on April 1.
While this lunar month has been focused on the new beginnings and individualism of Aries, we can’t forget Libra, the sign that forms a polarity with Aries. Libra reminds us that for all the singularity of Aries, we would be lost without the help and support of others.
For that, Libra is the scales. Life requires partnership, consensus, and negotiation in order to be in balance. There’s a reason Libra, as a cardinal sign, one of the four pillars of life. (Personally, I don’t always think Libra gets its fair due in astrology.) If we were all Aries, we would be incredibly aggressively self motivated. With Libra and its ruling planet Venus, we learn how important socialization is. Again, it’s all about balance.
This Libra Full Moon points us towards Venus in Pisces, joined by Mars, Neptune, and Jupiter — that’s a lot of planets in Pisces, a sign that closes out the zodiac and opens us up to the spiritual subtleties of life. Venus is quite happy to be in Libra, a sign it’s exalted in. If Libra is a sign of relationship and connection, then Venus in Pisces is relationship built on mutual respect, compassion, empathy, and perhaps even unconditional love.
There’s a romance to Venus in Pisces. Everything is beautiful, although the gossamer sheen of Pisces may disguise things that we may not want to see. Nevertheless, it’s a full moon to open your heart to others, to surrender to love, and find the promise of something better.
That said, there’s a Pluto square that we have to negotiate with this full moon, an energy that brings a sharp edge to all this Piscean glamour. It’s perhaps to say that, in order to open up fully to Venus in Pisces, we first have to face or navigate something unpleasant. Pluto pulls back the facade. It brings up hidden motivations and desires. And if we’re working through relationship issues this week, Pluto in Capricorn says that anything that’s structural or endemic has to be dealt with.
We often see Pluto at play in relationships when someone mirrors back to us something within ourselves that we don’t want to look at. Pluto also speaks to relationships that have power imbalances, toxic relationship patterns, obsession, secrets, and even threads of self destruction.
Do your Pluto work around this full moon, which is to say, face yourself. Have a difficult conversation with a partner, lover, or connection. In doing so, we can open up to the beauty and soul healing power of Venus in Pisces.
