Welcome to the Leo New Moon! This is the time in the lunar calendar when we turn our attention to joy, creativity, and passion. Leo is the sign of the Sun and reminds us that we all have to shine in our own ways. The Leo New Moon is exact on August 8, 2021 at 9:50 am EDT, 16 degrees. That’s 6:50 am Los Angeles, 2:50 pm London, 3:50 pm Johannesburg, 11:50 pm Sydney, and 1:50 am Auckland on August 9.

New moons are new beginnings. They give us another opportunity to turn the page and to start again. We live the following four weeks through the archetype of the sign, like a lens. And what is Leo? Our individuality, our self, and how we express our identities as well as our personas.

This new moon, however, comes with a bit of a punch, activating an ongoing story about change that has been working its way through our 2021. This story, symbolized by Saturn in Aquarius square Uranus in Taurus, feels at times as though we have one foot in a new life, one foot in an old one. It also feels seismic, different areas of our lives moving in directions we never thought possible.

This new moon as well as the astrology of August 2021 is one of the points this year when the energy of the square comes to a head. As a result, we may be navigating tricky events, feeling the pressure to make a change, or trying to integrate something new into our lives. Whatever it is, it may come as a proverbial or literal jolt. That’s the thing about the energy of Uranus. It can open up our eyes to something radically different.

However, what unfolds over the coming days as well as around the time of the full moon on August 22 is likely not anything new. When we think back, it’s possible that it’s been unfolding in some form since May 2018, March 2019. And then again in February and June of 2021. August is merely another chapter. So, hang on tight.

At the end of the day, this is still a Leo New Moon, a time to remember exactly who we are and to prioritize the things that are going to give us life and reignite the spark within. Leo helps us to find our heart as well as our confidence. And with the energies of Saturn and Uranus, it’s a time to break out of anything that’s been preventing us from being ourselves.
