Welcome to the Leo New Moon, the time in the lunar calendar when our attention turns to fun and play, passion and romance, creativity and self expression. Leo reminds each and every one of us to find the light within so that we can shine like the Sun. The new moon is on July 24, 2025 at 3:11 pm EDT, 2 degrees Leo. That’s 12:11 pm Los Angeles, 8:11 pm London, 9:11 pm Johannesburg, 12:41 am New Delhi on July 25, 5:11 am Sydney, and 7:11 am Auckland.
New moons are new beginnings. They turn our attention to a new archetype and theme set upon a stage over the next four weeks. Our lives ebb and flow. For some, it’s a turning point. For the rest of us, it’s a lunar month to experience life through a zodiac sign.
Leo is our lens for the next four weeks. And what is Leo? It’s the zodiac sign that is ruled by the Sun. It’s also a fire sign, an element that gives life and renewal as well as the motivation to start over.
In astrology, the Sun symbolically represents the self, the ego in all its positive and negative facets. Our work is always to make sure that we are using the light of the Sun positively because then it becomes a creative force. A Sun that shines negatively becomes a destructive force.
On a surface level, the next four weeks will be dedicated to getting back to ourselves, using the Leo energies of fun and play to express who we are. But, there’s a deeper side to the upcoming lunar month.
With a strong opposition to Pluto at the time of the new moon, the coming days and weeks initiate us into a period of a deep examination of self. Who are we? Are we our egos? Our past experiences? Are we the things that happened to us?
Pluto acts like a mirror, helping us to see ourselves in a new if not intimate or uncomfortable light. Pluto shows us our blind spots, the parts of our identity that we cast off or project onto others. When we have a strong Pluto aspect in a new or full moon, there’s always deep work to be done, a work of transformation that allows our spirits to grow and our souls to evolve.
On a practical level, it’s important to listen for Pluto in our experiences in the coming days. Very often Pluto brings up repressed emotions or hidden fears. If you feel a strong emotion during this new moon, sit with it … follow it … unravel the thread. Your unconscious may be trying to send you a message.
On a larger level, this is one of our early experiences with Pluto in Aquarius, a sign that Pluto first entered in 2023-2024 and won’t leave for another 20 years. So, while Leo is a sign that likes to keep it light, there may be heavier themes to navigate over the next four weeks, specifically a demand to look at ourselves and any negative facets of self, and to make a lasting transformation. Thankfully, we have support from Saturn in Aries, in the form of a trine, to help us find a steady hand.
