Virgo

August 23–September 22

Virgo Glyph

A month is never a standalone thing in astrology; it connects to a bigger picture. This month, we have to see how January threads into the bigger picture. In many ways, there’s this irony that’s happening: a new chapter is opening but it’s a chapter that’s already been in play since 2018. It gets a little dramatic and creates friction.

Virgo, you’re not in the same place as some of the other signs—I think some of the other signs are feeling this more dramatically. For you, you’re coming off of an eclipse season. The eclipses that were on November 30 and December 14. These were back and forth in the part of your chart that’s about career, about home, where you live, the directions in your life. Those two areas—career and home—may very well be on your mind as you go into the new year.

In January, two major planets in the heavens—Jupiter and Saturn—have changed signs; they’re now in Aquarius. For you, Virgo, this is about health, wellness, organization, work. The mundane details that are actually quite necessary to making life run. If these sound like Virgo keywords, you would not be mistaken. There is something about this time that plugs into things that are in your wheelhouse, Virgo. Saturn is saying to you that the next two years are focused on health; they’re focused on getting your day-to-day human life in order. It’s looking at diet, fitness, and nutrition. It’s making doctor’s appointments. It’s looking at things like addiction or things that you’re attached to that need to go for not supporting you anymore. If you’re not already healthy, here are two years to get healthy. Sit down with Saturn at the start of this month and write out your resolutions. Maybe it’s a little cheesy to talk about New Year’s resolutions, but this is where Saturn is right now. Except it’s not just resolutions for 2021, it’s resolutions until 2023. Where do you want your physical life to be at the start of 2023? Do you need to make changes in your diet? Do you need to get organized? Even some Virgos need to get organized. Do you need to create new systems? Aquarius is a sign of systems and networks. Maybe your old system or network is not working anymore and you have to build a new system. How can Aquarius help you look at alternative healing? Alternative health? Maybe you need to get a new perspective on an old issue and look in a place that you wouldn’t normally look.

Uranus has been in Taurus since May 2018 (outside of a brief retrograde from November 2018 to March 2019). Until 2026, you are completely revolutionizing how you see the world, how you see yourself in the world, what you believe in. What’s your faith? What’s your truth? What’s your meaning? Maybe it’s going back to school. This month, there is a lot of tension happening between that part of your chart and also this other part of your chart—work, taking care of your body, and getting these new systems and organizations happening. Maybe how you have been doing things has not been working. Maybe you need a radical rethink, Virgo.

Mercury, your ruling planet, is in Aquarius beginning January 8. It’s going to be in the part of your chart that’s about health, wellness, and taking care of the details of daily life. You may feel like it’s time to get organized and get ready for the coming weeks and months. Don’t forget, this is a part of your life that needs more attention courtesy of Saturn in Aquarius. Make sure you’re looking at the details.

It’s Capricorn season this month and there’s going to be a New Moon in Capricorn on January 13. This new moon is talking about themes around self and how you express who you are. It’s your talents and whether you’re taking your talent seriously. If any of this sounds familiar, it’s because it’s an area of your life where you were doing a lot of deep intense work on in 2018 and 2019 and 2020. Are you still asking yourself: Who am I? What are my talents? How am I sharing myself with the world, sharing my inner self? How am I sharing the truth of who I am with the world? This new moon is going to be in the same place in the sky as Pluto. Pluto is saying that some part of who you thought you were maybe it has to die metaphorically so that something new can come out of this time. (I’m a Scorpio, so I use strong metaphors.)

I have said this to all of the signs: The astrology of January 2021 is not easy astrology. There’s a lot of tension in the sky. It’s pushing a lot of buttons, trying to create new things. For you, it’s about how these bigger visions and bigger existential questions trickle down into day-to-day life. Maybe you’re used to your life running a certain way and it’s not going that way anymore. Maybe you’ve got to back up, come up with a new plan, a new way of doing things. Earth signs like Virgo take the longest to pivot. You’re being asked to pivot this month. Maybe it’s even a big pivot, though not as big as some of the other signs — Taurus, Scorpio, Leo, and Aquarius. You’re being asked to open your eyes and it’s quite possible that there’s a lot of things in your blind spot that have not been seen, or maybe you do see them, and this time is going to help connect the dots in a way that you’ve never connected the dots before.

Mars goes into Taurus on January 6. Taurus is the sign in your chart that talks about faith and truth and meaning in the world; it’s how you see things. Mars is going to meet up with Uranus on January 20, but before it does, it’s going to make what’s called a square to Saturn on January 13. Something is trying to get you to see things differently and maybe you’ve just been in the way. I mean that lovingly, Virgo.

Fast forward to the end of the month and there will be a Leo Full Moon on January 28. This full moon is in the last sign of your Zodiac and the last sign is about endings. Don’t get nervous at that word because everything that begins has to end; every chapter that begins has to end. This part of your chart is a very sacred place; it’s a very quiet place. You have to go deep within; you have to let go. Maybe there’s just something that you’re in your own way on. There’s nothing like a full moon in your twelfth sign to get you out of your way. This full moon is really kicking into gear a lot of 2021 astrology. It’s my pet theory that 2020 was meant get us all collectively to a certain point and clear a lot of space. Then 2021 is where we have to do something with that space. But keep in mind, there’s still this friction between the old and the new.
