Welcome to the Gemini Full Moon. It’s the time in the year when the spotlight is on ideas and communication, travel and exploration, curiosity and choices. Gemini pushes us to try new things, to use our senses as well as our words, and to see both sides of things. The full moon is exact on December 7, 2022 at 11:09 pm ET, 16 degrees Gemini-Sagittarius. That’s 8:09 pm Los Angeles, 4:09 am London on December 8, 6:09 am Johannesburg, 3:09 pm Sydney, and 5:09 pm Auckland.
Full moons are decision points. They demand action and attention, sometimes dramatically so. They reveal something that may have begun around the new moon, in this case the Sagittarius New Moon of November 23. If Sagittarius Season is about the pursuit of knowledge, travel, truth, and conviction, a Gemini Full Moon gets right to the point. And it has lots to say.
Both Gemini and Sagittarius are the signs that govern how we learn and perceive our reality. They help us make sense of our experiences both from an intellectual level but also a philosophical level. They are the writers and speakers, educators and preachers, travelers and adventurers. If Gemini is the words on the page, then Sagittarius is the book and its central tenet.
It wasn’t that long ago, in 2020-2021, when the eclipses were in Gemini and Sagittarius, a time when we navigated global themes around travel and education. At the core of this time was to use Gemini to reignite our curiosity, see things from a different perspective, and reassess our points of view.
In a way this full moon is an echo to that time. What did we discover in those years? Do we need our curiosity again? Or question what we believe in or what we stand for?
That said, this full moon puts the spotlight on Mars Retrograde in Gemini. In fact, the full moon makes an exact conjunction to Mars, a dynamic, feisty, and perhaps a bit temperamental aspect. You could say that this full moon puts our Mars Retrograde work in full view. Which is to say, working to be more conscientious in how we make choices, use our words, and have an impact on others.
We can’t be impulsive with Mars Retrograde, as much as a Gemini Full Moon with Mars is all impulse and emotional instinct. Thankfully Mercury, the ruler of the full moon, is now in Capricorn, asking that we show restraint and to seriously reflect before moving forward.
Mercury in Capricorn favors maturity and responsibility. It says follow the rules. Honor our responsibilities. Make lasting commitments to others. But also to set boundaries and not to be afraid to say no. Similarly, we get support from Saturn’s trine to Mars in Gemini.
Then there’s Neptune in Pisces. While Mars is no longer in an exact square to this evolutionary planet, it’s still an influence, especially with Jupiter in Pisces, too. As much as we’re making serious choices this week and into next, these are choices that need a shift in awareness. Perhaps we’re not seeing the bigger picture or taking into account the needs of something greater than ourselves.
We can’t be selfish with Neptune. It’s not that we must sacrifice our needs, but we need to put our human choices in harmony with the demands of our spiritual lives and our need for deeper meaning in our lives.
