Welcome to the Capricorn New Moon, the time in the lunar calendar when we look at our lives through a more serious lens. Time to get focused, make commitments, and work to make something of ourselves. The new moon is exact on January 2, 2021 at 1:33 pm EST, 12 degrees. That’s 10:33 am Los Angeles, 6:33 pm London, 8:33 pm Johannesburg, 5:33 am Sydney on January 3, and 7:33 am Auckland.
New moons are new beginnings and this new moon comes right after the start of the new year. It’s a powerful fresh start, one that pushes us to think about the future and make plans accordingly.
Although the last Saturn-Uranus square was December 24, the new moon picks up its energies and propels us into the new year. While Saturn’s energy can be no-nonsense, pushing us to cut out the things that are not working and strengthen what is working, it plays off the revolutionary energy of Uranus. Whatever commitments we’re making, whatever new beginnings we’re forging, they must break us free from anything that limits us and makes us suffer.
What are the duties and responsibilities of Capricorn if they break us down? How can we possibly build for the future if it’s on a foundation of suffering? We have to have the courage to leave behind whatever is no longer supporting and nourishing us. And maybe that in of itself is a radical act.
At the heart of this new moon is the desire to break forth in the new year. If 2021 was a year where we had one foot in an old life, one foot in a new life, we’re going to find it increasingly difficult to cling onto the past, especially as we reach the Aquarius New Moon in February and the eclipses of April and May 2022.
That said, the Sun and Moon’s trine to Uranus is an opportunity. Create a vision of what you want to change. Write it down. Don’t hold back. But be prepared to take actionable steps in the coming days and weeks.
