Mars squares Saturn as Saturn turns direct. It’s a day to set boundaries and expectations, to take a serious look at our relationships. Our actions must also have focus, discipline, accountability. We’re at the last stage of something that began nearly three years ago.
First, let’s start with Saturn Direct. After a four month retrograde, the planet of structure and responsibility moves forward at 25 degrees of Capricorn. Over the next two and a half months, we’re wrapping up a story that began when Saturn first arrived in Capricorn on December 19, 2017.
The retrograde gave us time to revisit, reintegrate, and reconfigure the work we’ve been doing. Now that Saturn is direct, we have to make a commitment to something — a commitment to ourselves, a relationship, a direction, a career, or even our health — and spend the next few months, until the end of the year, putting this into place. (Not sure what this means for you? Read Saturn in Capricorn: Sign by Sign.)
Saturn just wants us to reach our potential. It can either be a mentor or a coach, encouraging us to push ourselves higher towards our goals, or it can be the parent or even the cop, showing us where we’ve missed the mark. Saturn also rewards, so we may be getting a title, promotion, or upgrade if we’ve been doing the work. (Read In Defense of Saturn.)
Then there’s Mars square Saturn. In astrology, Mars and Saturn are big players. To the ancients, they were considered malefics, bringers of ill fortune and negative consequence. While there’s still good reason to recognize the malefic influence of Mars and Saturn, we can also work positively with its energy.
Normally Mars wants to rush forward. It’s impatience, individualistic, and even courageous. But Saturn is a reminder that things take time. We need practice and discipline. We need to hone our actions into something that will help us over the long run. And Saturn reminds us that we can initiate anything without a plan.
So, what are you trying to push forward without due diligence? Or, what have you been slacking on? What in your life demands Saturn’s request for practice and discipline? Use today as a major check in with your goals and ambitions. Set limits on self destructive behavior or boundaries with toxic people. Work with a therapist or coach to create more structure and accountability in life.
Finally, the Sun opposes Chiron in Aries, something that will weave its way through the October 1, 2020 Aries Full Moon. Whatever emotions we’re feeling has deep roots. It may be an ancient rage or an anxiety over not being brave enough to move forward. Chiron is a pain point, like a knot in the tapestry of our life that we need to work to undo. When we heal ourselves, we help others heal. (Watch a webinar clip from Chiron: Healing the Soul.)
