Mercury turns retrograde in Cancer. Over the coming three weeks, until July 12, we’re reworking how we communicate and make decisions. Mercury in Cancer runs on gut instincts and memory. How much of our past is getting in the way of being in the present?

There’s nothing objective about Mercury in Cancer. It’s intuitive, empathic. It speaks from the heart. It makes decisions based on how it feels. Although it’s important to be empathic in how we communicate with one another, sometimes our feelings and emotions can act like a filter that prevents communicate from being completely open and clear.

I’m not sure if this is Mercury in Cancer or my own experiences, but I’ve been having really random, crystal clear memories come up over the last couple of weeks, fragments of time from 30 years ago or even longer. It could be the smell or the sensation of being in my grandmother’s home. The memory of a motel I once stayed in 1991. Perhaps this is my way of discovering how different moments in time are a part of my own filter.

Ruled by the Moon, the sign of Cancer is all about the past. So it’s possible, with Mercury now retrograde in Cancer along with the Cancer New Moon solar eclipse on June 21, that we’re looking back at the past over the coming days and weeks. Be present with what’s coming up. What are these memories telling you? Are they helping you connect the dots or understand your present better?
