Welcome to the Aries New Moon! Coming on the heels of the equinox, this is a new moon of powerful new beginnings. Aries inspires us to take action, to go after what we want, and to forge ahead. It’s the start of a journey that takes us throughout the year. The new moon is exact on March 21, 2023 at 1:23 pm ET, 1 degree Aries. That’s 10:23 am Los Angeles, 5:23 pm London, 7:23 pm Johannesburg, 4:23 am Sydney on March 22, and 6:23 am Auckland.

New moons are new beginnings and with the fire of Aries, the first sign of the zodiac, this new moon is a relaunch, a rebirth that breathes new life. Aries, the first fire sign, reminds us that we need fire energy in order to create something new or to get things moving. For that, Aries is action, courage, bravery, motivation, fight, and determination.

This new moon sets us up for some interesting astrology. First, it’s a reminder that in four weeks time we have another Aries New Moon. While it’s a rare occurrence to have two back to back Aries New Moons, it’s even rarer that the coming new moon will be a solar eclipse. Think of this new moon as a preview or a way to examine our options before committing to the path ahead. After all, Mars, the ruler of the new moon, is in Gemini, the sign of choice and variety. We’re looking to surge ahead, but we may be a little overwhelmed by all the options.

Second, Pluto’s at 29 degrees Capricorn, the last degree, a denouement in a long story that began in January 2008. This may be a new moon of new beginnings, but we have a legacy to contend with. And while it my be difficult to fully understand that legacy, it’s important to reflect back on the people we were fifteen years ago and note a powerful shift.

So, with the past in full view, this is a new moon that not only prepares us for the coming four weeks, but launches us into the years ahead. No pressure, right? Maybe that’s why we need two back-to-back Aries New Moons to get fully launched.

That said, it’s not always easy to move forward, even with the push of Aries and its ruler Mars. We intellectually know we need element fire to get things animated, but we feel burned-out and demotivated. That’s when we can use the energy of Pisces, the sign previous. With Saturn newly in Pisces, what do we need to let go of or make peace with in order to move forward and seize upon Aries’s new beginnings? Mars is still picking up a square to Neptune. Sometimes we have to surrender to allow a new beginning to happen.

Just have the courage to move forward.

To get you ready for Pluto’s arrival in Aquarius, I’m doing a two hour webinar on March 29 at 8pm ET. Recording available. In it, I’m going over Pluto as a force of evolution and transformation, its work in Capricorn since 2008, and what can we perhaps expect as it transforms a new area of our lives.
