Welcome to the Aries Full Moon, the time in the lunar calendar when the spotlight is on taking action, finding our courage, and going after what we want. Aries is a dynamic sign, the first of the fire signs, and one that helps us find our spark. The full moon is exact on October 1, 2020 at 5:05 pm EDT, 9 degrees Aries/Libra. That’s 2:05 pm Los Angeles, 10:05 pm London, 7:05 am Sydney on October 2, and 9:05 am Auckland.

Full moons demand action. They put our lives in the spotlight. We see things for what they really are. Full moons can also coincide with major events or personal crossroads. And since this full moon picks up on a series of tense aspects, it’s likely for some that this full moon will be a powerful marker for this year.

With all that in mind, here we are at the Aries Full Moon, a sign that’s all about taking action. Depending on where Aries is, there’s a specific area of our lives that needs our attention, whether it’s a flareup in a friendship or a push to make a choice. Proverbial alarm bells may be going off, too. (Watch my weekly astrology video. I went into what this full moon means for each sign.)

This is not an easy full moon. With Mars in a square to Saturn and, by extension, square to Pluto, too, we may feel like we’re running up against a hard boundary. We may be seeing the shadow side of something, even if it’s the shadow side of our impulses and instincts. We may be angry, impatient, or aggressive as well.

Mars is retrograde during this full moon, so if we are feeling a knee-jerk reaction, it’s important that we examine our motives. Mars Retrograde is a call to do things differently, to approach a situation or go after a solution from a new perspective. If we’re normally one to rely on our anger or even suppress our anger, then this is a full moon to try and bring things into balance. If we’re feeling argumentative, how do we find peace?

Note that this full moon picks up energetically on the solar eclipse in Cancer from June 21. Our experiences may echo back to events from then. Further, the full moon squares the Lunar Nodes and, as a result, events this week may put as at a crossroads. People as well as situations may be coming out of our lives.

That said, the Aries Full Moon makes a conjunction to Chiron, a placement that digs into old scar tissue or old wounds gathered throughout our lives. Chiron in Aires makes us feel the ache of the past, especially around the times we were brave enough, didn’t confront something, or didn’t step up and take action. Can we make a change, though? Of course. But we have to push through an old story with this full moon, one that has deep roots or even deeper emotional, spiritual, and psychic roots. (Read Chiron in Aries: The Wounds of War.)

The work we do with this full moon means that we can not only help heal something at the level of our soul, but inspire others to be brave and courageous, to take action and initiative, to be the leader … because we’ve transformed ourselves into a positive example. (Watch my webinar clip Chiron: Healing the Soul.)

In summary, this is a powerful, aggressive, dynamic full moon. Give it a positive outlet by taking the initiative with something in your life or finding much needed courage. Get exercise, too. Mars needs physical activity. But with Mars Retrograde, you may have to try a different approach than usual. And if deep, complicated emotions come up, just be gentle with yourself. The full moon is pressing on what feels like scar tissue — scar tissue from not just this life, but other lives.
