Happy Aquarius New Moon! This is the time in the lunar calendar when we turn our attention to the communities, friends, and social connections in our lives. Since Aquarius brings us almost to the end of the zodiac, we’re dealing with life beyond the individual. Instead it’s society, humanity, groups, and the common vision that we share. The new moon is exact on January 24, 2020 at 4:42 pm EST, 4 degrees Aquarius. That’s 1:42 pm Los Angeles, 9:42 pm London, 8:42 am Sydney on January 25, and 10:42 am Auckland.

New moons are new beginnings. After a challenging Capricorn lunar month with two eclipses, this new moon feels sorely needed. It’s a renewed call for camaraderie and the feeling that we get when we know we’re not alone — we’ve got friends and allies. We’re also looking ahead towards the horizon and creating a new vision of what we want.

Aquarius is a sign that has a reputation for being a little weird and a little futuristic, too. That’s because Aquarius is a sign that helps us to open up to new ways of doing things, even if it’s different or eccentric. It helps us anticipate new trends both scientific as well as societal.

Like every sign, there are two sides to how Aquarius can express — a light and a dark. And while Aquarius is a sign that can help us become aware of just how we’re all connected, from social media and technology to the fabric of society, it can also speak to how we’re feeling increasingly disconnected and alienated. We’re more aware of how we lack friends and allies. We see the inhumanity in others.

Now that we can see the polarity of Aquarius and how it runs through our lives, how can we reach towards its best expression in the coming weeks? Maybe we’re joining a group? Maybe we’re getting involved in our community or politics or even professional networking. Get involved with something that will make us feel connected instead of separated. This, of course, is also a perfect time to start any new endeavors having to do with science, technology, and social causes — all Aquarius themes.

That said, the new moon makes a square to Uranus in Taurus, which means that over the coming four weeks we need to awaken to a new perspective. This new perspective may come like a light bulb or a thunderbolt. (Uranus in many ways is the myth of Prometheus giving fire to humanity.) Or the coming weeks may feel chaotic as it challenges our status quo. It’s quite possible that we need to get out of our way in the coming weeks, especially anything we’ve been stubbornly resisting.

Uranus in Taurus is also a call for us to get back into our bodies, to get our feet on the ground. Aquarius is a sign that can be so intellectual that it can lose itself in the numbers and figures instead of feeling. With Venus, the ruler of Uranus, conjunct Neptune in Pisces, how do we instead take it slow, trust our intuition, and open our hearts?

And don’t forget, Saturn, the ruler of Aquarius, is still making a rare conjunction to Pluto. We need to work on our spiritual connection this month and break down any blocks that have been preventing us from using our intuition more or feeling our connection with something greater. (You can watch a clip from my Starstruck 2020 Global Astrology Summit talk where I discussed all about what Saturn and Pluto mean for you this year. I’m really proud of that talk, so if you can, register to get the entire Starstruck video.)

We’re in a new time right now — or at least we’re on the cusp of a new time in 2020. And we have to clear some space mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically to be aligned with this new time.

Don’t forget to join me in New York live next Thursday, January 30, from 6:30-8:30 pm, for Your 2020 Astrology Blueprint, a look at this year’s astrology and what it means for you. Details and tickets here.
